NEW YORK, NY, January 06, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Prince M. Johnson has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Johnson is a distinguished figure in education and has committed nearly three decades of service to the New York City Public Schools system. Since 2007, he has thrived as a high school social studies teacher at Food and Finance High School, where he integrates the school's culinary focus into his curriculum and is recognized for his sustainability efforts. He also sponsors extracurricular activities and has played a pivotal role in securing resources for the institution, notably co-authoring a $300,000 Gates Foundation grant to support school development. Additionally, Mr. Johnson is a member of the climate education leadership team, which develops curriculum to help teachers across the city to engage in climate action and climate change work.
Mr. Johnson's commitment to experiential learning is evident through his work with composting initiatives. His students benefit from applied experiences that connect social studies to real-world issues such as food systems and environmental stewardship. Mr. Johnson has earned a reputation for delivering engaging speeches to stakeholders, representing New York State in educational forums and advocating for the expansion of career and technical education (CTE) programs.
In 2025, Mr. Johnson was selected for a prestigious fellowship through the Goethe-Institut, which enabled him to travel to Germany and study sustainability and career pathways. He observed Germany's dual-education model, where students begin vocational training during their junior year and receive industry placements upon completion—a protocol he hopes to advance in the United States. Mr. Johnson was also recognized as a fellow by New York University and through the Fund for Teachers program, which took him to Japan to further explore global educational practices.
From 2003 to 2007, Mr. Johnson taught social studies at Millennium Art Academy within the New York City Department of Education. Prior to this, he worked from 1999 to 2003 at Bronx Outreach Alternative High School Program, supporting students who had dropped out and returned to complete their education. Concurrently from 2001 to 2003, Mr. Johnson served as an adult education teacher with the Educational Expansion Program at John Jay College of Criminal Justice on Rikers Island, where he taught incarcerated adults, an experience that shaped his advocacy for CTE as a means of preventing recidivism.
Mr. Johnson's dedication to productive networking and best practices is reflected in his professional affiliations, which include memberships in the American Historical Association, National Conference of Social Studies, New York State Council for the Social Studies and New York State PTA. Mr. Johnson is proud to be associated with organizations that share his focus on progressing social studies education and supporting professional development among educators.
Exceptional academic credentials further shape Mr. Johnson's presence in the field. He holds a bachelor's degree in history from Stony Brook University, completed in 1998, and a master's degree in coaching and education from the same institution, obtained in 2003. Subsequently, he pursued a second master's degree in educational administration and supervision from Touro University, which he finished in 2012, and he earned a degree in Africana studies from Rutgers University–Newark School of Arts and Sciences in 2019. Mr. Johnson is proud to be currently pursuing studies in sustainability at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology—a milestone he considers significant alongside his professional achievements.
Mr. Johnson has also secured distinct industry certifications in support of his deep commitment to environmental stewardship, specifically, the completion of sustainability studies through the Master Composter Program with NYC Community Compost Network via the New York City Council and tree stewardship with NYC Parks, both in 2025. He also served on the New York City Climate Leadership Team as an environmental advocate for nearly two decades, as a master composter with NYC Community Compost Network and as a tree captain with NYC Parks. Mr. Johnson also humbly volunteers with Food and Finance High School PTA.
Inspired by his parents' examples—his mother, a nurse, and his father, a retired nuclear medicine technologist, Mr. Johnson has also sought to dedicate his career to serving others and to making a positive societal impact. Mr. Johnson also recognizes his abiding Christian faith as further motivation. Throughout his career, he has been acknowledged with numerous accolades, including the 2026 New York State Teacher of the Year Award, which he regards as his most significant professional achievement thus far. He was also named a finalist for the National Teacher of the Year award and the Gilder Lehrman New York History Teacher of the Year Award. Additionally, Mr. Johnson accepted the Generation Citizen Award and the Teacher of the Year Award from the United Federation of Teachers.
To achieve balance, Mr. Johnson enjoys training for and running marathons, spending time with his son and serving as a master composter in New York City. Looking toward the future, he aims to focus on public policy—particularly educational policy—to advocate for CTE expansion nationwide while promoting sustainable workforce preparation practices. Mr. Johnson will also pursue doctoral studies after completing his degree at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and elevate his involvement in teacher preparation programs to bridge gaps between collegiate instruction and classroom realities for future K–12 educators.
