Ms. Brown-Mills has led a distinguished career marked by leadership, innovation and a commitment to wellness, establishing Breathe Alaska in 2023. As the founder and owner, she provides direct services in corporate wellness, conducts retreats and workshops, and leads mindfulness experiences in the wilderness. She is dedicated to helping individuals, particularly women in high-pressure environments, transform stress into strength by using breath as a tool for resilience and focus.

Prior to launching Breathe Alaska, Ms. Brown-Mills was the deputy executive director at Gastineau Human Services from 2022 to 2023. From 2021 until 2022, she held the role of vice president of finance and compliance at VOA Alaska.

Between 2018 and 2021, Ms. Brown-Mills's tenure as the chief financial officer at Juneau Youth Services was marked by fiscal stewardship and support for youth-focused programs. From 2017 to 2018, she served as the deputy director at the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, following her role as the administrative operations manager from 2015 until 2017 within the same department.

Earlier in her career, Ms. Brown-Mills was the assistant director of financial aid at the Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education between 2013 and 2015. Previously, she served as an administrative manager at the Juneau Police Department from 2006 to 2013, earning Manager of the Year honors in 2006 for her exemplary leadership.

Ms. Brown-Mills began her professional journey as a program coordinator at Juneau Youth Services from 2000 until 2006, developing programs that supported youth development and well-being. Her career foundation was laid through military service as an aviation structural mechanic in the United States Navy between 1989 and 1993, during which time she developed discipline and technical proficiency.

Instrumental in equipping Ms. Brown-Mills with the analytical and managerial skills necessary for her diverse leadership roles was her academic background. She earned a Bachelor of Applied Science in industrial and product design from ITT Technical Institute in San Diego in 1996, followed by a Master of Business Administration from Alaska Pacific University in 2000.

In addition to her formal education, Ms. Brown-Mills is certified as a SOMA Breath instructor and a Conscience Connected Breathing facilitator. She maintains active membership in several professional organizations, including SOMA Breath and the Alaska Travel Industry Association.

Throughout her career, Ms. Brown-Mills has credited much of her success to mentorship, support and encouragement received from other women who have guided her journey. This influence has shaped her mission at Breathe Alaska: supporting others — especially women — who face burnout or chronic stress in demanding careers.

Outside her professional pursuits, Ms. Brown-Mills engages in her community, currently serving as the treasurer on the board of directors for the Juneau Downtown Business Association since 2023. She was previously a board member for JAMHI Health & Wellness from 2021 to 2023 after serving as its board treasurer between 2018 and 2020. Additionally, she contributed as a board member for the Orpheus Project from 2020 until 2021 and remains an active supporter of the Swim Dive Booster Club.

Looking ahead, Ms. Brown-Mills plans to author a book about mindfulness that will chronicle her transformation from burnout to well-being. Through this project, she aims to share insights gained from her own experiences with those navigating similar challenges in corporate environments, empowering them with tools for productivity, engagement and resilience.
