ELKIN, NC, January 14, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Wanda Anthony Burger has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Burger has established a distinguished career in mental health counseling, trauma therapy and clinical supervision, marked by her expertise in trauma and cognitive behavioral therapy and extensive training as a certified clinical military counselor. As the founder and chief executive officer of Still Waters Training and Counseling, Dr. Burger has dedicated herself to providing individualized counseling for complex cases, including military service members and their families coping with high stress and trauma. She leads monthly group training and supervision sessions focused on trauma, mental health and substance use, fostering interactive discussions and professional development among participants.

In her current role, Dr. Burger is reviving the Changing Seasons program, which she previously operated from 2008 to 2013. This initiative is designed as an intensive outpatient substance abuse program requiring participants to attend three days per week for three hours each day over three months. The program aims to support individuals in recovery or those needing a high level of care, while also offering community education and support. Additionally, Dr. Burger organizes a monthly Community Awareness Support Group at the local library, where she donates her time to educate the public about drug abuse, intervention strategies and available resources. She provides free consultation hours to professionals and certificates to community members who participate in these initiatives.

Earlier in her career, Dr. Burger served as the director of clinical operations at Carolina Community Support Services Inc. from 2011 to 2013, where she oversaw clinical programs and contributed to organizational growth. Prior to that appointment, she was a clinical director at Step By Step Inc. from 2010 to 2011. Dr. Burger's professional affiliations reflect her dedication to advancing the field of counseling. In this regard, she is a member of the National Board of Certified Counselors, the National Association for Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors, Addiction Professionals of North Carolina and the North Carolina Substance Abuse Professional Practice Board. She has also held leadership roles as regional director and professional development chair with the Licensed Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor Association.

Dr. Burger earned a Doctor of Philosophy in pastoral studies and counseling from Trinity University in 2010. Previously, she completed a Master of Science in community counseling in liberal arts and sciences/counseling psychology at Gannon University in 2003 and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and Spanish from the School of Graduate Studies at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania in 2001. Likewise, she obtained an Associate of Science in nursing education from Butler Community College in 1984 and an Associate of Arts in nursing education from Lenape School of Nursing in 1982. Dr. Burger also holds numerous licenses and certifications, including as a certified advanced trauma specialist, a licensed clinical mental health counselor supervisor, a certified clinical mental health counselor, and a certified clinical military counselor. She is also an international advanced alcohol and drug counselor and an international certified clinical supervisor, and she has specialized training in cognitive behavioral therapy for children.

A pivotal moment in Dr. Burger's life occurred following a near-fatal accident early in her career. Despite daunting odds regarding survival and recovery shared by medical professionals at the time, she persevered through rehabilitation with unwavering support from her husband. His encouragement enabled her to return to higher education and ultimately propelled her into leadership roles within the counseling profession.

Beyond her professional pursuits, Dr. Burger has demonstrated a strong commitment to civic engagement. She has volunteered with organizations such as the Rotary Club, PFLAG and her local church. As a former vice president and secretary of Elkin VOTES for Democracy, she contributed to civic participation efforts within her community. In addition, her involvement with Love INC (In the Name of Christ) was particularly impactful. Encouraged by Presbyterian minister Rob Willard and supported by the organization's chief executive officer, Dr. Burger led efforts to establish a new office for Love INC as planning board president – the first president of its new office – which continues to thrive after more than three decades.

Looking ahead, Dr. Burger is focused on expanding training initiatives by developing certificates for clergy and volunteers centered on trauma-informed care, aiming to equip those unable to afford professional help with essential skills. She seeks to reach churches and helpers through these programs so they can become certified providers of trauma support within their own communities. Additionally, she intends to contract with more organizations like the Winston-Salem Rescue Mission, where she has served as a contracted professional supervisor, helping clinicians who are also ministers gain a deeper understanding of substance use through comprehensive training programs.
