WESTFIELD, IN, January 23, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Howard T. Silverstein has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Born in Rochester, New York, Dr. Silverstein learned from an early age that he wanted to work with others. As a retired laboratory supervisor for the Perimeter College at Georgia State University, he realized that dream and used his skills to drive scientific knowledge and treat patients.

As is the case with many medical and scientific professionals, Dr. Silverstein's journey began with the foundation of a strong education. In 1965, he completed his undergraduate studies in chemistry at Alfred University. Two years later, he earned a Master of Science from the University of Illinois. A further two years later, he earned a PhD in chemistry, also from the University of Illinois. Later, in 1976, he would become a doctor of chiropractic through the Palmer College of Chiropractic.

Dr. Silverstein spent 27 years with Palmer College of Chiropractic, serving in a number of roles across several aspects of the college. He has also served as a laboratory supervisor at Perimeter College at Georgia State University for 10 years, though he has since retired.

In his spare time, Dr. Silverstein volunteered at The Children's Museum of Indianapolis for several years, and he served as a volunteer at the Science Olympiad at Georgia Perimeter College for 16 years. He has also served as a Kentucky Colonel for the past 25 years.

Dr. Silverstein became a chiropractor in an unusual way. Initially not in practice, he cared for family and friends and was hired to teach chemistry at Palmer. His supervisor suggested he take a few courses to better understand what students needed to know about chemistry, but he ended up completing the entire chiropractic program. He continued teaching and was gradually given more responsibilities, eventually becoming director of research, chairman of the physiology and chemistry department, registrar, and faculty marshal, overseeing graduations and campus ceremonies.

Throughout his career, Dr. Silverstein has had numerous notable achievements. He either wrote or edited all the laboratory manuals at Georgia Perimeter College, and they continued to be used for five to six years after he retired. Dr. Silverstein also assisted in transitioning Palmer College from one academic calendar to another, which improved the educational process for students. He also wrote some of the laboratory manuals at Palmer College.

Dr. Silverstein retired in 2009 and moved to Indiana to care for his wife, who tragically passed in 2025. They had been married for 59 years and have two children involved in education: their daughter is a clinical pharmacist at Butler University, where she earned her PharmD, and their son is a high-energy physicist and faculty member at Stockholm University.

On a personal level, Dr. Silverstein has always enjoyed working with people. He is always available to help. He wants to ensure that there are more smiles and fewer frowns. At Palmer College, he provided a great deal of help to professional organizations. He evaluated chiropractic colleges with an accrediting agency for eight to 10 years.

Dr. Silverstein attributes his success to having highly successful students and a strong influence on the educational process, including designing courses and writing laboratory textbooks. He was responsible for monitoring student progress and maintained long-term connections with many Japanese students, some of whom he has kept in touch with for over 40 years.
