Certified as a field training officer (FTO) and California Drug Recognition Expert (DRE), he also served over 15 years as a peer support officer and earned prestigious honors including the Meritorious Award for Bravery from the Long Beach Police Department, lifesaving awards from the City of Anaheim, and various other commendations. He earned his "Honorary Retiree" status from the Anaheim Police Department after a decade of service.

Complementing his public service, Mr. Uribe taught criminal justice courses at Long Beach City College for several years, inspiring the next generation of professionals.

Mr. Uribe earned a Master's degree in Emergency Administration (2009) and a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice (2005, emphasis on criminal psychology, minor in Spanish) from California State University, Long Beach. In 2004, he received the United States Presidential Volunteer Award. In 2012, he was honored with the Homer L. Garrott Community Service Award by the Southern California Chapter of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE). Deeply committed to service, Mr. Uribe founded The Edgar Joel Uribe Foundation (2022) in memory of his brother, providing financial and emotional support to families who have lost loved ones to autism.
