He also holds an Associate Degree in general studies from Central Virginia Community College, where he graduated cum laude in 2006. His academic journey began with a diploma from Heritage High School in 1979. Demonstrating a lifelong commitment to learning, Mr. Sutton participated in master's degree coursework with an emphasis on curriculum and instruction leadership at the University of Lynchburg until 2021. Over the course of his studies, he accumulated 214 college credits across various subjects, a testament to his intellectual curiosity and dedication to personal growth.

Beyond his professional commitments, Mr. Sutton has demonstrated significant civic involvement as president of Abated Virginia Incorporated since 1988. He is also an active member of Grace Memorial Episcopal Church, serving as lay reader, usher, vestry member, and worship leader.

He also received an Award of Excellence after scoring in the top 15 percent of all previous testers nationwide on the Praxis II History and Social Sciences content knowledge teaching certification exam.

Mr. Sutton's scholarly contributions include authoring "How the English Reformation Produced a Tale of Two Churches" at the University of Lynchburg in 2008 and writing "The Biker" at Central Virginia Community College in 2006.
