As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Mr. Sutton has established a distinguished career in education, most notably as an academic instructor at Old Dominion Job Corps, a Department of Labor program, where he has served since 2010. In this capacity, he teaches students aged 16 to 24, designs and implements established curricula, and instructs remedial reading and math courses. His responsibilities also include teaching comprehensive subjects such as English and other core academic areas. Mr. Sutton's commitment to his students is underscored by his ability to persevere through personal and health challenges, maintaining a steadfast presence in the classroom. He takes particular pride in his resilience, often referring to himself with humor as a "renaissance redneck," a moniker given by his cousin that reflects his multifaceted interests and adaptability.

Prior to his current role, Mr. Sutton worked as a substitute teacher for Bedford County Public Schools from 2009 to 2011. During this period, he provided instructional support across various grade levels and subject areas, adapting quickly to different classroom environments and student needs. Concurrently, he also served as a substitute teacher for Lynchburg City Schools from 2009 to 2011, further broadening his experience within diverse educational settings.

In addition to his teaching roles, Mr. Sutton is actively engaged in advocacy as the state legislative director for a politically oriented motorcycle group in Virginia. This position highlights his dedication to civic involvement and his commitment to representing fellow motorcyclists' interests at the state level.

Throughout his professional journey, Mr. Sutton has maintained active memberships in several esteemed honor societies, including Phi Kappa Phi, Omicron Delta Kappa, Kappa Delta Pi and Phi Alpha Theta. These affiliations reflect his ongoing pursuit of academic excellence and leadership within the field of education.

Mr. Sutton's educational background is both extensive and diverse. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in history and secondary education, graduating magna cum laude from the University of Lynchburg in 2009. He also holds an Associate Degree in general studies from Central Virginia Community College, where he graduated cum laude in 2006. His academic journey began with a diploma from Heritage High School in 1979. Demonstrating a lifelong commitment to learning, Mr. Sutton participated in master's degree coursework with an emphasis on curriculum and instruction leadership at the University of Lynchburg until 2021. Over the course of his studies, he accumulated 214 college credits across various subjects, a testament to his intellectual curiosity and dedication to personal growth.

His professional qualifications are further supported by several certifications: Leading During Times of Change (2020), Developing Adaptability as a Manager (2020) and Productivity Tips: Finding Your Productive Mindset (2020), all from LinkedIn. He also holds a collegiate professional license for history and social sciences (grades six through twelve) issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia, valid from 2009 to 2027.

Mr. Sutton attributes much of his success to his faith, crediting the Father, Son and Holy Ghost for providing strength throughout life's challenges. He acknowledges the profound influence of his parents, both college-educated individuals who instilled in him a respect for education and social awareness during an era when higher learning was rare. Their experiences during the Great Depression and World War II shaped his values regarding community involvement and perseverance. Mr. Sutton's natural curiosity and passion for sharing knowledge have been central to his teaching philosophy; he frequently reminds students that true wisdom lies in recognizing how much there is yet to learn.

Inspired by a genuine enjoyment of teaching, Mr. Sutton entered the profession with enthusiasm for working with young people despite frustrations with increasing administrative demands that can detract from classroom engagement.

Beyond his professional commitments, Mr. Sutton has demonstrated significant civic involvement as president of Abated Virginia Incorporated since 1988. He is also an active member of Grace Memorial Episcopal Church, serving as lay reader, usher, vestry member, and worship leader.

His achievements have been recognized with several awards, including the Access Achievement Award from the University of Lynchburg and an Award of Academic Excellence in English Composition. He also received an Award of Excellence after scoring in the top 15 percent of all previous testers nationwide on the Praxis II History and Social Sciences content knowledge teaching certification exam.

Mr. Sutton's scholarly contributions include authoring "How the English Reformation Produced a Tale of Two Churches" at the University of Lynchburg in 2008 and writing "The Biker" at Central Virginia Community College in 2006.

Born in Lynchburg, Mr. Sutton is dedicated to remaining a positive influence on young people, continuing his advocacy work for motorcyclists in Virginia, and staying active within his church community. As a devoted father to three daughters and grandfather to four grandchildren, he remains committed to upholding these roles with resilience and purpose.
