Prior to his current role, Mr. Vaillancourt was a senior systems engineer at SEAKR Engineering from 2010 to 2021, during which time he played a pivotal part in the Thales Alenia Space Iridium NEXT project as an engineer on the onboard processor. His most notable achievement involved contributing to the architecture and design of key components for a project that produced 81 boxes for 81 spacecraft, with his team serving as the primary payload provider. He performed all systems engineering tasks, from system architecture through design and analysis to the integration and test campaign — an accomplishment that stands out as a highlight of his professional journey.

From 2003 until 2010, Mr. Vaillancourt held the position of senior hardware engineer at SEAKR Engineering, developing advanced hardware solutions and supporting the company's growth in the aerospace sector. Between 2000 and 2003, he served as a digital design manager at Proxim Wireless, where he led teams in designing digital systems for wireless communication products.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Vaillancourt held a significant tenure as a senior department staff engineer at TRW, now Northrop Grumman, from 1982 to 2000. He began his professional pursuits as a hardware engineer at COM DEV from 1980 until 1982. This foundational experience provided him with practical insights into electronic system development and set the stage for his subsequent achievements.

Laying the groundwork for Mr. Vaillancourt's success was his academic background. He earned a Bachelor of Applied Science in electrical engineering from the University of Ottawa in 1978, graduating with summa cum laude distinction, followed by a Master of Applied Science in electrical engineering from the same institution in 1980. His interest in space exploration was sparked by an early enthusiasm for science fiction, which guided him toward a career dedicated to advancing space technology.

Reflecting on his accomplishments, Mr. Vaillancourt attributes his sustained success to a commitment to continuous learning and collaboration with younger engineers. This approach has enabled him to stay current with emerging industry trends and technologies, ensuring that he remains at the forefront of innovation within his discipline.

Throughout his long career, Mr. Vaillancourt has maintained active involvement in professional organizations, including as a life member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. Looking ahead, he plans to retire but remains open to new opportunities within the industry following an offer from another company that he finds both flattering and potentially enjoyable.
