In addition to his engagement at UT Health, Dr. Dhanda served from 2019 to 2023 as the director of health economics and outcomes research (HEOR) at Neurocrine Biosciences in California, where he led initiatives to generate real-world evidence and demonstrate value for innovative therapies. In 2023, he expanded his professional reach by consulting for various companies, providing strategic guidance on health economics, market access and biostatistics and regulatory affairs, as pertaining to clinical outcome assessments (COAs).

In 2019, Dr. Dhanda was vice president of real-world evidence at Complete HEOR Solutions (CHEORS), a leading neuroscience-focused, biopharmaceutical company, overseeing projects that advanced the use of data analytics in health care decision-making. Between 2016 and 2019, he excelled as the director of global HEOR at Indivior Inc. in Richmond, Virginia. He has experience in several therapeutic areas.

Dr. Dhanda's tenure as the senior director of scientific development at MedMining Information Services, a subsidiary of Geisinger Health and recognized as a health care analytics and informatics company in Danville, Pennsylvania, from 2013 to 2016, involved leading research efforts that leveraged large-scale clinical data to inform health care policy and practice. From 2011 to 2013, he was a senior director and head of health economics and outcomes research at McKesson Specialty Health/US Oncology Network in The Woodlands, Texas, guiding economic evaluations for oncology products.

Among his earlier assignments, Dr. Dhanda served in various directorship roles at companies such as Ikaria/INO Therapeutics, Ikaria, POI, KCI Medical and Bayer. He also worked as an assistant director at Forest Laboratories and as a senior biostatistician at Purdue Pharma. Earlier in his career, Dr. Dhanda worked in academia as an assistant professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio from 1992 to 1997.

Before pivoting into the pharmaceutical industry, Dr. Dhanda was affiliated with the faculty of economics and business administration at George Mason University, Florida Institute of Technology, Mary Washington College, Our Lady of the Lake University and St. Mary's University between 1983 and 1996. He began his professional journey as an economist with the World Bank and Beltway consulting companies from 1980 to 1992.
