Among her most notable efforts is her collaboration with the chief of health care services at the Catawba Nation in Rock Hill, working closely with tribal leadership and the surrounding community to elevate mental health as a critical and culturally responsive priority. In addition to her role with ACHE, Ms. Wallace-Smith has maintained a diverse portfolio of professional and community-focused leadership. Since 2006, she has worked as a real estate agent and investor, leveraging her expertise to help families in underserved communities secure stable and affordable housing. She also serves as a Community Provider Liaison with Continuum Health Providers, advancing innovative mental and behavioral health solutions for youth and adults across Greater Charlotte, Fort Mill, SC, and Rock Hill, SC.
From 2023 to 2024, Ms. Wallace-Smith served as Senior Director of Clinical Quality at Affinity Health Center, overseeing clinical standards and ensuring excellence in patient care. During this same period, she was Director of Care Management Program Development at Covenant Case Management Services, where she led the development of tailored care coordination models and innovative strategies for individuals and families.
Ms. Wallace-Smith dedicated more than a decade to Atrium Health, where she held multiple progressive leadership roles. From 2020 to 2021, she served as Clinical Director of the Carolinas Medical Center (CMC) Women's Institute, guiding women's health initiatives and advancing patient-centered care models. Previously, she was Corporate Safety Officer for Products (2019–2020), focusing on enterprise-wide safety protocols and risk mitigation.
Between 2017 and 2019, she worked as a Quality Coach, Patient Safety Coordinator for Corporate Operations, and Hospital Improvement Innovation Network (HIIN) Coach, leading quality improvement efforts and strengthening patient safety initiatives. Earlier in her tenure, she served as a Patient Experience Consultant (2015–2016), improving patient satisfaction and quality outcomes, and supported nationally recognized organ transplantation initiatives from 2010 to 2015.
One of Ms. Wallace-Smith's most personally meaningful roles was as a Family Support Specialist and Funeral Home Liaison for LifeShare of the Carolinas, a position she held for nearly six years. In this capacity, she compassionately supported grieving families and facilitated organ and tissue donation conversations during moments of profound loss. She considers this work—helping families navigate grief while offering hope through donation—among her most significant achievements. The lives potentially saved and comfort provided remain a lasting source of pride.
Earlier in her career, Ms. Wallace-Smith served as a Crew Leader for the United States Census Bureau in 2010, overseeing staff education and training initiatives. From 2007 to 2010, she worked as a Family Service Counselor with Service Corporation International in Charlotte, providing bereavement support while also contributing to staff training and operational oversight.
In 2003, she served as a Development Consultant for Another Choice for Black Children, securing $60,000 in donations in fewer than six months. She began her professional journey as a Minority Marrow Consultant with The American National Red Cross (1998–2002), where she promoted life-saving marrow donation within underrepresented communities across the Carolinas, Northern Georgia, West Virginia, and Tennessee. Her impact earned national recognition from the American Red Cross National Headquarters in Washington, DC.
Ms. Wallace-Smith's academic achievements further reflect her commitment to excellence. She earned a Master of Health Administration, magna cum laude, from Capella University in 2016 and a Bachelor of Arts in African American/Black Studies and Psychology from The Ohio State University in 1996. She has also completed extensive professional development, including a Lean Six Sigma Bronze Belt and a Diversity and Inclusion Certificate from Atrium Health, certifications in Patient Safety and Performance Improvement from the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, and a TeamSTEPPS Master Trainer designation from Duke University Health System.

Beyond her professional work, Ms. Wallace-Smith is an active civic and community leader. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and serves on the boards of Rebuilding Together of Greater Charlotte and the PRIDE Entrepreneur Education Program, where she also acts as Community Chair. Her volunteerism includes supporting youth through Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and assisting marginalized communities through the Community Building Initiative.
Her leadership and service have earned numerous accolades, including the Regents Award from the American College of Healthcare Executives in 2023 for her work as Chair of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. Under her presidency, ACHE of Greater Charlotte received national recognition with the ACHE Regent's Award in 2025. She has also received multiple honors from Atrium Health for senior leadership and organ donation initiatives, as well as the Diversity Outreach Award from the American National Red Cross in 2021.
A devoted wife and mother, Ms. Wallace-Smith values time with her family and enjoys traveling, photography, bowling, gardening, and landscaping.
