Before joining RaiseUp Families, she was the director of philanthropy at Mercy Home for Boys & Girls from 2011 to 2018, where she honed her skills in fundraising and community engagement. Her earlier career included positions such as Regional Sales Vice President at MetLife Investors from 2010 to 2011 and Assistant Branch Manager at Morgan Stanley Smith Barney from 2008 to 2010.

Ms. Burgess began her professional journey with the Principal Financial Group, where she held various roles from 2003 to 2008. She started as a Benefits Service Representative before advancing to Financial Services Representative and later Regional Field Recruiter. Her bilingual capabilities in Spanish and English were instrumental in conducting employee 401(k) enrollment investment education meetings for institutional clients, setting the foundation for her future success in wealth management.

Her academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts in communication studies and Spanish from Central College in Pella, Iowa, earned in 2001. This dual major equipped her with essential communication skills and cultural insights that have been invaluable throughout her career. Additionally, Ms. Burgess earned a Life and Health License and Series 7, 9, 10, 24, 63 and 65 certifications, which facilitated her early career achievements in financial services.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Ms. Burgess is deeply committed to civic engagement and volunteerism. She is a member of Impact100 Houston and served as a guardian ad litem with Child Advocates from 2020 to 2025. Her involvement with the Order of Malta's Prison Ministry Pen Pal Program since 2016 reflects her dedication to social justice causes.
