TOPANGA, CA, February 17, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Kiel Shaub has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Shaub has established a distinguished career in higher education, experiential learning and interdisciplinary curriculum development. Since 2022, he has served as academic curator for the EXL Lab at the University of Southern California, where he is also a professor. In his capacity as academic curator, Dr. Shaub works with faculty across university departments to design and implement experiential learning opportunities, including field trips, study abroad programs, innovative projects, and speaker series grounded in humanistic inquiry, design, and storytelling. This approach distinguishes the EXL Lab from other project-based programs that often focus on engineering and technology. Illustrative of this innovative approach is an upcoming course that revives the mythic context of the ancient Olympic games, featuring a final project tied to the visitor experience of the LA28 summer Olympics. Additionally, Dr. Shaub manages and coordinates mentorship programs for high school initiatives while teaching and leading academic courses and programs at the university.

In 2023, Dr. Shaub expanded his responsibilities at the University of Southern California by taking on the role of lecturer. Dr. Shaub's leadership has been instrumental in supporting the transition of the physical education and mind-body health curriculum toward a holistic model of health and well-being. His courses emphasize the health benefits of intellectual and imaginative exercise, complementing the department's traditional focus on physical exercise.

From 2021 to 2023, Dr. Shaub served as a faculty advisor and academic mentor at Scholar Launch, where he guided students through complex academic projects. Concurrently, he worked as a reporter for TechBuzz News, contributing articles that explored the intersections of technology, society and education.

Dr. Shaub's tenure at the University of California, Los Angeles began in 2013 as a graduate teaching fellow and teaching assistant, roles he held until 2018. He then served as a research fellow from 2017 to 2019, focusing on interdisciplinary studies that bridged literature, science, and art. From 2020 to 2021, he served as a lecturer at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he pioneered project-based learning that moved beyond traditional analytical essays, encouraging students to demonstrate their understanding through creative media such as short films and paintings. During this period, Dr. Shaub was introduced to the EXL Lab founders in the final stages of his university contract.

Throughout his career, Dr. Shaub has maintained active membership in several professional organizations reflecting his commitment to interdisciplinary scholarship. He has been a member of the Early Caribbean Society since 2021, the Victorian Interdisciplinary Studies Association of the Western United States since 2020, the North American Society for the Study of Romanticism since 2019, the Modern Language Association since 2018, the Society for Literature, Science, and the Arts since 2018, and the Western Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies since 2017.

Dr. Shaub's educational background is both broad and rigorous. He earned a Doctor of Philosophy in English language and literature from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2019 after completing a master's degree in English language and literature at The City University of New York in 2012 and another master's degree in English language and literature from Université Paris Cité in 2012. He holds a certificate in Latin language and literature magna cum laude from The Graduate Center at The City University of New York, awarded in 2011. His undergraduate studies culminated in a bachelor's degree in English language and literature and psychology from the University of Washington in 2008.

Dr. Shaub's academic journey was shaped by an insatiable sense of wonder and curiosity, a driving force behind his pursuit of knowledge across disciplines. His early interest led him to pursue graduate-level coursework in behavioral neurobiology, with a focus on animal behavior, nervous systems and marine ecology. While his official academic credentials are rooted in English literature, his scientific expertise is grounded in an undergraduate foundation in biopsychology.

His scholarly achievements have been recognized through several prestigious awards including the Departmental Dissertation-Year Fellowship from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2018; Edward A. Dickson Fellowship in the History of Art from the same institution in 2017; Lenart Graduate Travel Fellowship also from University of California, Los Angeles in 2017; and Graduate Teaching Fellowship awarded by University of California, Los Angeles in 2015.

Dr. Shaub's contributions to academia extend beyond teaching into research and publication. He contributed "The Horror of Rahab: Toward an Aesthetic Context for William Blake's 'Gothic' Form" to William Blake's Gothic Imagination published by Manchester University Press in 2018; authored "What's In a Booklist? Institutional Formation and the Creation of Lincoln Cathedral's First Catalogue" for Marginalia: The Journal of the Medieval Reading Group at Cambridge in 2013; co-authored "Sound Source Localization by the Plainfin Midshipman Fish Porichthys notatus" published by The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America in 2010; wrote "Darwin's 'Beautiful': Coadaptation as a Problem in Evolutionary Aesthetics" for The Journal of Aesthetic Education in 2021; and most recently published "Modelling Genius: Performance and Pedagogy in Samuel Taylor Coleridge's Royal Institution Lectures" for Romanticism in 2025.

Having lived in Los Angeles for more than a decade, Dr. Shaub has developed a deep appreciation for the region's unique ecology, which informs his curriculum design focused on ecology and sustainability. His course "Sustainability and Self-Care" integrates environmental stewardship with self-care practices, emphasizing the human relationship to the environment in the study and protection of vulnerable ecosystems. He explores how time spent in natural settings can enhance mental and physical health—a holistic perspective that guides both his teaching philosophy and ongoing work.

Among his most significant achievements is his current work at EXL Lab, which fulfills a long-held goal: transforming educational paradigms amid rapid technological change driven by artificial intelligence. Rather than emphasizing mastery of specific subjects such as biology or physics, which have traditionally been central to education, Dr. Shaub advocates developing the cognitive skills, habits of mind, social & emotional intelligence, and creative energy that are essential for lifelong learning across disciplines. This "flipped discipline" approach aims to ignite curiosity, imagination, and agency in every student, empowering them to recognize, articulate and ultimately realize their own potential.

Born in Seattle, Dr. Shaub enjoys reading, writing poems, essays, and stories, as well as spending time in nature and hiking, outside his professional commitments. He values family relationships as vital motivators alongside his intrinsic curiosity, which continues to fuel his ambitions.

Looking ahead, Dr. Shaub seeks to normalize experiential learning approaches across educational institutions, believing these methods empower students with independence, agency, and ownership over their learning journeys, careers, and personal discoveries, a remarkable vision he regards as within reach through continued dedication to transformative educational practices.
