In 1985, he accepted a position as a seventh grade teacher at Calvary Chapel Schools in Redlands, California. In the next years, he advanced his educational career by joining Bloomington High School as a school teacher. Mr. DeRoo expanded his professional repertoire between 1992 and 1994 by serving as Assistant Executive Director of the Sporting Club at Lakeshore Towers in Irving, California. This role allowed him to integrate his athletic background with business management skills. In 1994, he began a new chapter as a school teacher at Indio High School within the Desert Sands Unified School District. For fourteen years, he played a pivotal role in shaping the educational experiences of students, emphasizing the importance of physical fitness and personal achievement.

More recently, from 2008 to 2018, Mr. DeRoo served as the boys and girls golf coach at Shadow Hills High School as well as numerous assignments in the classrooms there. Under his guidance, student-athletes developed their skills both on and off the course, benefitting from his extensive experience in sports education. His commitment to professional excellence is reflected in his active memberships with several industry-related organizations, including the NFL Alumni Association and the NFL Players Association. Additionally, he serves as a Hall of Fame committee member at the University of Redlands, contributing to the recognition of outstanding achievements within collegiate athletics.

Educationally, Mr. DeRoo's background has played a crucial role in supporting his professional accomplishments. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in physical education from the University of Redlands in Redlands, California, and furthered his education by obtaining a master's degree from Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, California. He also completed coursework toward a Master of Business Administration at the University of Wisconsin, broadening his understanding of organizational leadership and management principles. To complement his academic credentials, he holds an administrative services credential from Chapman University in Orange, California.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Mr. DeRoo is actively involved in civic organizations and community service initiatives. He is a member of Pegasus Riding Academy and has served as a youth pastor at Calvary Chapel in Redlands, California, demonstrating a longstanding commitment to supporting youth development and well-being.

Personally, Mr. DeRoo values family life alongside his spouse Penny and their children. He enjoys playing golf during his leisure time and remains dedicated to supporting his son Nicholas's progress toward independent mobility through collaboration with specialists and participation in federally funded self-determination programs designed to enhance quality of life for individuals with special needs.
