Previously, Mr. Mayes served as a crew leader at RU Theater, formerly Renew Urban Theater, from 2017 to 2021. During his four years in this position, he led teams through complex installations and maintenance projects until the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. His calm demeanor and adaptability were especially valuable during challenging circumstances.

From 2015 to 2017, Mr. Mayes held dual roles as crew leader and supervisor at Franklin Design Inc., where he was responsible for organizing crews, training employees and managing daily and weekly expense reports. He tracked materials and equipment while ensuring quality customer service while his duties also included planning travel arrangements, facilitating communication and building relationships with customers on-site. He began his tenure at Franklin Design Inc. in 2010 as a crew member. Prior to his work in theater rigging, he gained experience as a crew member at Independent Roofing System from 2006 to 2010. He also worked at McDonald's in two separate periods: first from 2003 to 2004 and again in 2006.

Among Mr. Mayes most notable achievements is a critical IMAX screen installation completed two years ago under challenging circumstances. Scheduled to lead a team of 10 temporary workers alongside five professionals, he faced an unexpected setback when none of the temporary workers arrived on installation day. With only four other skilled professionals—two of whom had no prior IMAX experience—he took charge under significant pressure to meet a strict deadline that carried substantial financial implications if missed. Through decisive leadership and technical expertise, he successfully directed the team to complete the installation on time, resulting in a flawlessly hung IMAX screen that stands as a testament to his resourcefulness.

Reflecting on his career, Mr. Mayes attributes his success to the trials he experienced throughout his journey. Growing up in Jackson, Mississippi, followed by a formative move to Florida, provided him with diverse perspectives that shaped his character. He acknowledges the influence of several key individuals who supported him along the way—most notably Bobby Franklin, whose well-organized company set a standard for professionalism that inspired Mr. Mayes's own approach to business. Working alongside Mr. Franklin allowed him to interact with various business owners who demanded results and maintained high standards for detail-oriented work.
