MERIDIAN, ID, February 25, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Eric L. Andersen with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Andersen celebrates many years' experience in his professional network and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Andersen has built a distinguished career spanning nearly four decades at HP, where he is recognized as a mechanical hardware development engineer expert in the LaserJet Enterprise Solutions Division, a role he has held since 2012. In this capacity, he has been instrumental in advancing scanner technology, automatic document feeders and paper path innovations. Mr. Andersen's expertise in testing plastics for ultraviolet resistance and his leadership in developing efficient calibration methods for scanners have earned him the moniker "scan man" among colleagues. Notably, his work on the inverse C paper path for automatic document feeders marked a significant shift in user experience, returning output directly to the user and enhancing accessibility.
Employed by HP for more than 35 years, Mr. Andersen spent 2005 to 2012 as a mechanical hardware development engineering expert in the Value Enterprise Printer Division. During this period, he contributed to the design and optimization of enterprise-level printing solutions, focusing on reliability and cost efficiency. Between 2003 and 2005, Mr. Andersen was a mechanical hardware development engineer specialist with the Multi-Function Printer Division. He played a pivotal role in advancing laser jet and scanning technology during this time. From 1999 to 2003, Mr. Andersen worked as a hardware development engineer in the Multi-Function Printer Division at HP. Recently Mr. Andersen has taken over the role as a Current Product Engineer along with his R&D work as well as part of HP's patent disclosure committee.
Among other roles during his extensive career with HP, Mr. Andersen excelled in the Personal LaserJet Division, the Boise Printer Division and the Disk Memory Division, all of which contributed to HP's reputation for quality. His professional journey began at HP in San Jose, where he served as a product development engineer in the Optoelectronics Division from 1988 to 1991. Here, Mr. Andersen specialized in LEDs and optical encoders, culminating in his first U.S. patent for a rotary tactile feedback apparatus, a breakthrough adopted by both HP's medical equipment division and Boeing aircraft.
Mr. Andersen's educational foundation began at Fort Lewis College, followed by Colorado School of Mines, where he studied engineering physics and chemistry. He later studied at the University of Colorado, Boulder, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering with a minor in physics. Mr. Andersen holds several professional credentials, including an HP Explorer certification. He also received first aid, CPR, AED and wilderness first aid certification, demonstrating his commitment to safety both inside and outside the workplace.
Mr. Andersen's civic engagement includes presenting educational talks on color blindness awareness throughout schools, churches and corporate groups, such as HP's Boise Disability Business Resource Group. He has also contributed extensively to technical literature, with publications in Evaluating Engineering, including 'HASS: How to Avoid Stress Screening' in 2001, and in Research Disclosure, including 'Input Tray Illumination' in 2007.
Throughout his career, Mr. Andersen has demonstrated exceptional skill in scanners, automatic document feeders and paper path engineering. His efforts at HP led to over 30 U.S. patents, including one design patent and five publication disclosures. Among his most notable patents are those for paper feeding mechanisms, transparent platens with chamfered egress edges, edge sensing, multi-function printing device calibration and imaging device assemblies. Mr. Andersen's patent for systems and methods for automatic language selection for system user interfaces was inspired by an experience at Narita Airport in Japan and is now licensed by Visa and American Express, enabling ATM users worldwide to select their preferred language when traveling abroad. Additionally, his patent for scanner calibration using cost-effective targets rather than expensive ones has saved HP hundreds of millions of dollars while providing customers with reliable results.
Mr. Andersen's professional excellence has been recognized with numerous awards, including being a first-time winner of the HP Innovator Award in 2023 and receiving the HP President's Quality Award that same year. Outside of his work-related accolades, his passion for racing cars earned him recognition as a three-time Copper Cup winner with Venom Racing at Firebird Raceway.
Looking ahead, Mr. Andersen remains committed to reaching new milestones at HP, continuing product development, embracing new challenges, such as collaborating with Samsung engineers following HP's acquisition of Samsung printers, participating in podcasts on emerging technologies like 3D printing, and sharing insights from decades of experience. He hopes to be remembered as an honest and equitable individual whose integrity inspires others.
