During this period, she lived in La Jolla, where she and her husband developed numerous projects, including a notable property on the cove that resulted in a successful sale. Among her significant achievements was selling the oceanfront home of the renowned actor Cliff Robertson. Her earlier experience includes serving as a broker associate at Cornish and Carey Real Estate from 1987 to 2001.

Ms. Nystrom-Walsh's entrepreneurial spirit was evident during her tenure as chief executive officer of Nystrom Financial from 1980 to 1989. She founded this mortgage company after obtaining her broker's license, successfully managing operations before selling the business to focus on residential real estate. From 1980 to 1987, she was owner and broker of Nystrom Financial Group, where she honed her negotiation skills on behalf of clients seeking mortgage solutions. In 1984, she authored and instructed "Prequalifying a Buyer," a course designed for real estate agents that qualified for twelve hours of required continuing education credit.

She earned a bachelor's degree in social services administration with additional studies in business administration and management from Notre Dame de Namur University in Belmont, California, graduating magna cum laude in 2001. She also holds a Business Management Certificate from College of San Mateo, graduating magna cum laude in 1980. She has also held the Senior Real Estate Specialist certification from the National Association of Realtors since 2010 and is a member of the California Association of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors.

She started her career in lending in 1972 as a loan processor before advancing to processing supervisor and then appraiser, becoming only the second woman appraiser in California as a Class Four appraiser for three years. In 1976, she became the first woman loan officer for savings and loans in California, a distinction that set the stage for founding Nystrom Financial.

Beyond her professional pursuits, Ms. Nystrom-Walsh is deeply involved in civic activities. Since 2013, she has served as an art instructor with Art Docents of Los Gatos Elementary School District and as board member and vice president of membership for Art Docents of Los Gatos Inc., fostering arts education within local schools. She also supports charitable initiatives, such as the Salvation Army Toy Drive.
