REISTERSTOWN, MD, March 04, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Nancy Roldán has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

A renowned international teacher, musical performer and consultant, Dr. Roldán has led a distinguished career spanning six decades as an expert in music performance and piano teaching. Her teaching experience includes association with major learning centers such as the National University of Cuyo in Argentina, the University of Puerto Rico, the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music, and the Peabody Conservatory of The Johns Hopkins University, where she taught for over 30 years until her retirement. Since 2008, she has maintained a private studio and has served as an independent consultant in Baltimore, Maryland, where she continues to share her expertise with musicians and students alike. Her teaching career is marked by a deep commitment to fostering musical growth and excellence, drawing on her extensive experience in educational leadership and course creation.

Parallel to her academic associations, Dr. Roldán has conveyed her deep commitment to teaching through workshops and master classes, inspiring countless individuals to pursue their passion for music, emphasizing the transformative power of joy in self-discovery and artistic expression. Her dedication to teaching is evident in the success of her students, many of whom have achieved remarkable milestones on their own right. Witnessing her students thrive is among her proudest achievements, and she remains grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with talented children, and young men and women throughout her career.

Before retiring from teaching at the Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Roldán founded the Liszt-Garrison International Festival and Piano Competition (2004-2015) under the aegis of the American Liszt Society, where she served on the board of directors and as president of its Baltimore-Washington chapter through 2018. In this capacity, she was pivotal in establishing a platform for emerging artists to showcase their talents while promoting the legacy of the famous Hungarian composer Franz Liszt. Her leadership contributed significantly to the festival's reputation for excellence and innovation within the international music community. In 2017 she co-directed the event in Ohio, which is now known as the Franz Liszt International Piano Festival and Competition.

Beyond her mentorship endeavors, Dr. Roldán is recognized for her role in founding the Sonus International Music Festival, Org. — established in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, bringing together international artists from around the world with a message of peace and hope. The mission of this organization encourages the performance of compositions inspired by folk traditions, and composition of music similarly inspired. To fulfill the second objective, Sonus-IMF created the Carlos Guastavino International Composition Competition, held in 2021 and 2023.

Dr. Roldán's professional journey is further distinguished by her membership in prominent organizations, including the Music Teachers National Association, and by her past involvement with the College Music Society and the American Liszt Society. Reflecting her longstanding commitment to advancing music education and supporting fellow professionals around the world, she has taught piano in her native Argentina and developed music and piano study courses in the Bahamas and the United States, including the Music Conservatory of Puerto Rico and UMBC. During her extensive association with the Peabody Conservatory of the JHU, Dr. Roldán created, developed, and taught comprehensive Piano Skill courses for UG and Graduate piano majors until her full retirement.

Hailing from an equally accomplished academic background, Dr. Roldán earned a Doctor of Musical Arts with a concentration on piano performance from the Peabody Institute at The Johns Hopkins University in 1989 as well as a Master of Music in piano performance with Honors in 1976. Early studies in music, piano, theory, solfège, and choral conducting, were undertaken at the Universidad Nacional de Cuyo (UNCUYO) in Argentina graduating in 1960, following a baccalaureate from the "Normal School Tomás Godoy Cruz for Teachers." Her most influential teachers include pianists Juan Florentino Salomón, Francisco Amicarelli and Jesús María Sanromá, composer Miguel Francese, choral conductor Rodolfo Kubik, and conductor Frederick Prausnitz. Along with her education, she attributes much of her success to a profound passion for learning, music, and the unwavering support of her family, teachers, mentors and above all, the encouragement of her children - describing her career as an endeavor of love.

Creatively fulfilled as pianist, performer, and arranger, Dr. Roldán has collaborated with numerous artists throughout her career, creating chamber ensembles such as Trio Americas - Artist Ensemble in Residence at UMBC, the Lester-Roldán piano duo, and the Cueto-Roldán violin-piano duo with her husband, José Miguel Cueto. Carlos Guastavino -- composer whom she met and corresponded with for many years, and whose life and music inspired her to establish the Sonus International Music Festival -- remains especially significant to her artistic journey.

Besides the performance of traditional repertoire, pianist Nancy Roldán is committed to performing music which despite its substance and beauty remains inexplicably neglected. Her contribution to performing works by composers from the Americas includes world premieres of works by Thomas Benjamin, Luis Jorge González, and Jorge Villavicencio Grossmann -- dedicated to her, Thomas Benjamin, Russell Nadel, and Bryan Dykstra -- dedicated to the Lester-Roldán piano duo, and Andrew Gerle -- dedicated to the Cueto-Roldán violin & piano duo. American premieres include music by Carlos Guastavino for solo piano and various ensembles, including art song, violin & piano duos, numerous works for duo-piano ensemble with Noel Lester, Romance de Ausencias for duo-piano & choir ensemble with pianist Alejandro Cremaschi and the Da Camera Singers conducted by Ernest Liotti, and Indianas #1 for piano and choir, with conductor Ernest Green and the Annapolis Chorale. American premieres with Trio Americas, include works by Eduardo Grau and Constantino Gaito. Additional world premieres by European composers include Six cants intrancendents by Xavier Turull - with violinist Laura Klugherz in NY, and Homage to Poulenc - piano & woodwind quartet by Trygve Madsen with the Cygnus Ensemble in BA, Argentina.

In 2016 she recorded and premiered her own arrangements of Las Cuatro Estaciones Porteñas (The Four Buenos Aires Seasons) by Astor Piazzolla, under the Centaur Label. Piazzolla, Here & Now received rave reviews, some from Fanfare Magazine cited below.

~ "Nancy Roldán's immigrant journey has given us a wonderful souvenir of Argentina with Piazzolla Here and Now. In her and José Cueto's hands, Piazzolla's music speaks with rare passion and eloquence." ... "Roldán's arrangement of The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires makes an important addition to the repertory for violin and piano." David Saemann

~ … "this riveting and moving album, delivers Piazzolla Here and Now, which is also its title. The phrase implies immediacy, spontaneity, and a message for the present moment. All of that comes through splendidly." … "this isn't a normal Piazzolla program but a highly personal amalgam instead, part concert, part theater piece, part cabaret, that weaves music and words together." Huntley Dent

Following are a few quotes regarding solo and ensemble performances.

" In an age of steel fingered pianists who play as if icy ichor flowed from their veins, it is refreshing to hear music making which allows for freedom of expression ... [Roldán] breathed life into the score."
Francis Schwartz, San Juan Star, Puerto Rico

"Bravura playing, magnificent."
Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Germany

"...Crystalline, rippling piano line... gorgeously lyrical."
Alan Kozinn, The New York Times, USA

"An artist of solid background, she plays with total assurance and knowledge... Chopin' s concerto No. 2 was a jewel of stylistic awareness, with an ideal tempo, and a beautiful-clear tone."
Los Andes
, Mendoza, Argentina

"... [Nancy Roldán's Liszt Piano Concerto #2] dazzled and amazed all within hearing range. Roldán is the first pianist of the season to play with such authority."
The State Journal Register, Illinois, USA

"...Cueto and Roldán are a powerful and well-balanced combination ... easy rhythmic energy and fine ensemble playing ... superb in all particulars." (Duo's NY recital debut at Weill Carnegie Hall)
Marcia Young, Strad Magazine

A few quotes from personal letters written to Nancy Roldán by Carlos Guastavino between 1987-2003.

~ "There aren't many musicians with your emotional sensitivity and musical sense, my dear Nancy. I would be confident to have you record my work."
~ "… a noble interpretation, each one with mastery, and both in perfect communication to shape each musical idea. [Your] wonderful innate musicality brings forth an expressive, stirring performance." (About a Cueto-Roldán recital.)

~ "I was moved to tears with each note you [and Lester] recorded... The three [Romances] are excellent and full of impulse and emotional nuances..." (Regarding the CD "Music from the Americas" recorded for the Centaur label.)

Outside of her musical endeavors, Dr. Roldán takes great pride in the achievements of her children, both of whom are accomplished in their respective careers — her daughter is Actor Gabriela Cavallero, who resides in Denver, CO., and her son, is Architect Alberto Cavallero, who resides in New York. Most importantly, Nancy cherishes spending time with family and her grandchildren, Sam and Ariana.

Determined to further her creative impact in the coming years, Dr. Roldán intends to publish her arrangements of composer Astor Piazzolla recorded in 2016 which features arrangements for violin-piano duo that are entirely her own except for two original pieces by Piazzolla. She is also engaged in writing a book about the celebrated Argentine composer Carlos Guastavino.

Throughout every phase of her life and career, Dr. Roldán's passion for teaching and performing has remained central to her identity as an artist and mentor. Her enduring influence is reflected not only in her professional accomplishments but also in the lasting impact she has made on generations of musicians worldwide for 60 years and counting.
