CHICAGO, IL, March 06, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Gerry Salinas has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Salinas has dedicated more than two decades to education, with a career marked by advocacy, leadership and a steadfast commitment to underprivileged communities in Chicago. Since 2016, he has served as school counselor and case manager at Lara Elementary Academy within Chicago Public Schools, focusing on the Back of the Yards neighborhood. In this capacity, Dr. Salinas has established vital partnerships with organizations such as Lutheran Social Services of IL and Apple Runway, which provides uniforms for students in need. As STLS coordinator, he advocates for students and their families, ensuring access to essential resources including uniforms, winter coats and shoes. His open-door policy and hands-on approach have made him a trusted resource for both students and staff.

Throughout his tenure at Lara Elementary Academy, Dr. Salinas has prioritized social and emotional advocacy, particularly for Hispanic and minority families. He regularly translates for Individualized Education Program and Section 504 meetings, facilitating communication and support for families navigating special education services. Recognizing the importance of opportunity, he organizes an annual high school fair for sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students, connecting them with pathways beyond their immediate environment.

Prior to his current role, Dr. Salinas served as assistant principal for one year. Although administrative leadership offered new perspectives, he found his true calling in direct student engagement and counseling. Earlier in his career, he began as a social studies teacher after earning his bachelor's degree in education from Roosevelt University in Chicago in 1998. Over time, he expanded his teaching repertoire to include Spanish, algebra and science, holding endorsements in science, math, language arts, social sciences and learning behavior specialist 1 (LBS1). His classroom experience laid the foundation for his later work as an advocate and counselor.

Dr. Salinas is an active member of the Illinois School Counselors Association and the American School Counselors Association. His dedication was recognized when he was named a Top Five nominee for School Counselor of the Year by the Illinois School Counselors Association.

His academic journey reflects a commitment to lifelong learning and professional growth. After completing his bachelor's degree at Roosevelt University in 1998, Dr. Salinas pursued a master's degree in criminology and forensics at Chicago State University, graduating in 2008. Driven by a desire to make a greater impact on students' lives, he earned a master's degree in school counseling from Chicago State University in 2014. During the pandemic lockdowns, he completed coursework for his LBS1 certification to better serve special education students while also obtaining principal certification from Chicago State University in 2021.

In 2024, Dr. Salinas achieved a significant milestone by earning a Doctor of Education from the U.B.C. with a focus on bilingual students, a pursuit inspired by encouragement from a colleague. Defending his dissertation marked a proud moment in his academic career. He continues to seek knowledge relevant to his field; most recently, he completed coursework on suicide and depression to further support students' mental health needs.

Dr. Salinas attributes his success to an unwavering passion for working with families and understanding their unique challenges. He believes that making a difference is not about the affluence of a district but about being present where support is most needed.

Beyond his professional responsibilities, Dr. Salinas is civically engaged as STL coordinator at Lara Elementary Academy and supports organizations such as Red Door Animal Shelter, ASPCA and Hope for Paws.

Born in Chicago, Dr. Salinas enjoys staying active through Cycle Bar classes and working out. He values time spent with friends and family, enjoys movies and theater outings and is devoted to caring for his parents. Looking ahead, he plans to continue developing as a counselor while working closely with families, collaborating with administration and supporting staff members—demonstrating ongoing dedication to student well-being and educational equity within Chicago Public Schools.
