His responsibilities include regularly walking the casino floor to evaluate cleanliness, identify malfunctioning machines and address security concerns. Since 2015, Mr. Nuey has also served as a board member for the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribal Gaming Authority in East Taunton, Massachusetts. Appointed by the Tribal Council, he represents the tribe's interests in the gaming industry, ensuring that the casino's ownership aligns with tribal priorities. His leadership on the board is informed by his extensive experience in staff management and scheduling, skills honed during his law enforcement career.
Additionally, Mr. Nuey has contributed to public safety as a member of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe Public Safety Commission since 2013. From 2018 to 2025, Mr. Nuey served as a long-term substitute teacher for North Smithfield Public Schools in North Smithfield, Rhode Island. His work in education reflects his dedication to supporting youth development and fostering positive learning environments.
Mr. Nuey's law enforcement career spanned 26 years and began as a campus police officer at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, where he served for ten years. He then joined the Cranston Police Department in Cranston, Rhode Island, and rose through the ranks, becoming a patrol operations supervisor from 2004 until his retirement in 2021. Notably, Mr. Nuey became the first person of color promoted to the rank of sergeant in the history of Cranston's police department, the third-largest in Rhode Island. This achievement stands as a source of immense professional pride. Navigating a transition from Brown University's diverse environment to Cranston's less diverse community presented significant challenges; however, Mr. Nuey's perseverance enabled him to excel amid intense competition and limited representation of people of color in city management positions.
Between 2011 and 2014, Mr. Nuey served as the executive board union secretary for the International Brotherhood of Police Officers Local 301 in Cranston, Rhode Island. In this capacity, he advocated for officers' rights and contributed to labor negotiations.
Mr. Nuey is a lifetime member of the Rhode Island Criminalist Association, underscoring his ongoing commitment to professional development within law enforcement and criminal justice fields.
His academic achievements have played a pivotal role in shaping his career trajectory. Mr. Nuey earned a Master of Science in criminal justice studies from Boston University in 2008 and a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice with a concentration in law enforcement administration from Roger Williams University in 2000. These degrees provided him with advanced knowledge of criminal justice systems administrative practices that have been instrumental throughout his professional journey.

Born in Mashpee, Mr. Nuey values family life and is the father of one son. Outside his professional commitments, he enjoys carpentry, woodworking and reading about genealogy and ancient history.
