From 2016 to 2020, Ms. Peña contributed as a customer success manager at Scientific Learning Corporation, following her tenure as a professional development manager with the same organization from 2015 to 2020. During this period, she played a pivotal role in equipping teachers nationwide with the tools and knowledge necessary to foster student achievement in reading. Her earlier experience as an educational consultant from 2015 to 2016 further solidified her reputation as a leader in literacy instruction.

Ms. Peña's classroom experience is extensive. She served as a dual-language teacher, reading specialist and state tutoring program coordinator for the Tucson Unified School District during the 2014 to 2015 academic year. The previous year, she was a middle school teacher and professional learning community coordinator within the same district. From 2012 to 2013, she worked as a reading specialist and professional learning community coordinator, demonstrating her commitment to collaborative instructional improvement.

Her teaching journey also includes serving as a Spanish teacher and teacher mentor at ASU Preparatory Academy from 2010 to 2012. Additionally, Ms. Peña served as vice president of The University of Arizona Hispanic Alumni Association during this time, reflecting her commitment to educational advancement within the Hispanic community.

Earlier in her career, Ms. Peña was an account executive at Pearson from 2008 to 2010, where she gained valuable experience in educational publishing and resource management.

Alongside her educational pursuits, Ms. Peña has maintained an active real estate license since 1996 and is affiliated with Tierra Antigua Realty. Real estate has been both a passion and a practical pursuit for her; she views it as an opportunity to help families achieve homeownership while supplementing her income as an educator. Her academic background is equally impressive. She earned a master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis on Reading and Literacy from Arizona State University in Tempe in 2012. She previously completed a Master of Arts in Education at the University of Phoenix in 2004 after earning a Bachelor of Arts in Communication with a concentration in Spanish from the University of Arizona in Tucson in 1993.

Ms. Peña holds several certifications that have enhanced her effectiveness as an educator and real estate professional: bilingual education certification from the Arizona Department of Education; reading specialist certification from the Arizona Department of Education; teacher evaluator certification through the TAP Program; real estate license since 1996; short sales and foreclosure resource designation; and accredited buyer's representative designation.

Her inspiration for entering education stems from a family legacy deeply rooted in teaching; her grandfather, several aunts and uncles all served as educators. From childhood, Ms. Peña demonstrated an innate desire to teach, often arranging dolls as students for impromptu lessons. As a native Spanish speaker born in Tucson, she struggled with reading fluency throughout her own schooling despite her love for literature and writing.
