Initially drawing inspiration from the example of his brothers, both of whom were mechanical and chemical engineers, Mr. Kiczek studied civil engineering at Cornell University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in 1972. Having taken a course in labor law at the Industrial Labor Relations School during this time, he went on to obtain a Master of Public Administration at the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business. In the years to follow, Mr. Kiczek ultimately pivoted to legal service and obtained a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the New York Law School in 1977, after which he entered private practice in 1979.

Over the course of his career in law, Mr. Kiczek relocated back to his hometown of Bayonne, New Jersey, where he worked in the city law department and became immersed in a local movement to reform the county government. Resolving to run for office, he initially stood for election as mayor of Bayonne in 1990, but lost. Undeterred, he was subsequently elected in 1994. Despite the political nature of his new position, he made great use of his multifaceted knowledge of law, engineering and public finance, which contributed richly to the advancement of the local economy – in addition to the creation of affordable housing, there remain several malls and other public works whose development Mr. Kiczek initiated, for which the town of Bayonne received awards of recognition from the federal government. Outside his work as the mayor of Bayonne, other civic accomplishments to his credit include service as the treasurer for the Greater Long Branch Chamber of Commerce, and as chair of the Archdiocese of Newark.

After four years in office, Mr. Kiczek continued his professional journey in private practice until 2011, whereupon he joined Kiczek & Kapish LLC as an equity partner. To remain aware of developments in the field, he has, at one time or another, been affiliated with the American Bar Association, the Hudson County Bar Association, the Monmouth County Bar Association, the New Jersey Bar Association – for which he has sat on several committees – and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, where he serves as treasurer.

In the years to come, Mr. Kiczek looks forward to gradually ramping down his responsibilities in legal service as he prepares for retirement, after which he hopes to have more time for writing and travel.
