As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Porreca is a distinguished vascular surgeon whose career has spanned more than four decades. Concluding his active clinical and academic practice in 2023, he built a distinguished reputation for excellence in patient care, surgical leadership and medical education. Most recently, from 2023 to 2026, he served as a consultant for Restore First Health, a national complex wound care company. In this role, he supervised many nurse practitioners across multiple states, including Florida, Georgia, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Ohio and Texas, conducting clinical reviews and leading meetings to ensure the highest standards of patient care.

Between 2018 and 2023, Dr. Porreca was a vascular surgeon at Columbia New York Presbyterian. During this period, he contributed to the advancement of vascular surgery through both clinical practice and mentorship of residents, fellows and PAs. He led the development of a vascular surgery program at the Columbia NY Westchester division.

From 2003 to 2018, Dr. Porreca was appointed director of vascular surgery at the Jack D. Weiler Hospital of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He also directed the hospital's vascular laboratory and wound care center for 15 years. His leadership in these roles was marked by significant achievements in patient care and education. Notably, he received the Mentor of the Year award from chief residents and fellows at Einstein in 2017.

Earlier in his career, from 1984 to 2003, Dr. Porreca served as director of vascular surgery at Westchester Square Hospital and assistant Director of Surgery at Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center. His tenure at Westchester Square was highlighted by his appointment as director of vascular surgery, a role he held for approximately 10 years and considered a significant professional milestone. He was appointed to the Board of Directors at Westchester Square and served until 2003 when he became full time at Albert Einstein.

Throughout his academic career, Dr. Porreca dedicated himself to teaching residents, students and nurses, emphasizing hands-on training to address evolving challenges in surgical education. He also authored many peer- reviewed articles in prestigious surgical journals dealing with general and vascular surgery topics. He also led a clinical trial for the Baxter company dealing with anti platelet agents.

Beyond his professional titles, Dr. Porreca is also a member of several professional organizations. These include the Society for Vascular Surgery and the Society for Vascular Ultrasound. He is also a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Porreca's educational journey began with a Bachelor of Science degree in pre-medicine/pre-medical studies from Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey, in 1973, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a 3.8 grade point average during a highly competitive era influenced by the Vietnam War draft. He also completed coursework toward a master's degree in physiology at Rutgers University before earning his Doctor of Medicine from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, New York, in 1978.

Following his graduation, Dr. Porreca completed a residency in general surgery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Medical Center from 1978 to 1983. During this five-year residency, he rotated through affiliated hospitals such as Jacoby Medical Center, North Central Bronx Hospital, Albert Einstein Hospital and Montefiore Medical Center gaining comprehensive surgical training without work hour restrictions — a formative experience that earned him the Jack D. Davidoff Award for Excellence in Teaching Medical Students in 1981. He served as chief surgical resident for years 1982-83.

In 1984, Dr. Porreca completed a one-year vascular fellowship at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, which allowed him to be closer to family while advancing his specialization in vascular surgery. He holds board certification as a surgeon from the American College of Surgeons in both New York and New Jersey and is certified as a registered physician in vascular interpretation (RPVI).

Dr. Porreca attributes his success to his blue-collar upbringing in Philadelphia and southern New Jersey, where his father, a truck driver, encouraged him to pursue ambitious goals. He believes deeply in the opportunity the United States offers to those willing to work hard and remain disciplined. Grateful for the strong support system that guided his journey, he especially credits the unwavering encouragement of his wife Rosemary and family.

Beyond his clinical work, Dr. Porreca has been actively involved with civic organizations and charitable initiatives. He serves as a mentor for young professionals and is engaged with his local church community. As an alumnus of Gloucester Catholic High School, he sponsors the Dr. Frank Porreca Scholarship and supports other educational initiatives; for his achievements, Dr. Porreca wil be inducted into the Gloucester Catholic High School Hall of Fame Class for 2026. Dr. Porreca is also a supporter of the Tunnels to Towers Foundation as well as missionaries of the Legionaires of Christ.

Dr. Porreca enjoys golf, exercising and reading history. As he reflects on a distinguished career, he looks forward to dedicating more time to traveling with his wife and creating lasting memories with his children and three grandchildren. He ultimately would like to continue to share his wealth and experience with others who may be interested in a career in general or vascular surgery.
