YORKTOWN, IN, March 16, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jon L. Willis has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Willis is a distinguished figure in the design estimation and engineering industry, and his profile is defined by a series of influential roles. Most recently, he has served as the owner, designer, engineer and estimator at JW Design and Estimation. In his leadership capacity, Mr. Willis has been responsible for designing homes, estimating project costs and managing invoicing, drawing on his extensive background in both creative and technical aspects of construction and design.
From 2007 to 2021, Mr. Willis was a pro service specialist at Lowe's, where he became one of the few in his district to estimate blueprints and calculate all necessary materials for contractors—a responsibility many avoided due to liability concerns and the specialized knowledge required. Notably, Mr. Willis's proficiency in this area earned him recognition as one of the top ten pro service specialists in a region comprising 100 stores.
Before his tenure at Lowe's, Mr. Willis contributed as an engineering support designer at General Motors from 1989 to 2007. His work included significant projects such as designing the last IROC symbol for the Camaro in the mid-1990s, a milestone that stands among his most notable achievements. Additionally, Mr. Willis held several positions at Guide Corporation, where he contributed as a designer, project engineer and model shop supervisor, and he traveled to Detroit to collaborate with other designers.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Willis excelled with Kimball Electronics and contract engineering companies doing design work. As a contract designer working for different contract firms, he performed design work for Naval Avionics by playing a key role in supporting engineers on the design of the Cruise and Walleye missiles, contributing to critical defense projects. He also spent two years at Mid America Design before serving as a contract designer for Guide Corporation. In addition to his technical roles, Mr. Willis has experience as an educator, having joined the faculty at Newcastle High School and demonstrating his commitment to sharing his knowledge and mentorship.
A passion for academic excellence drove Mr. Willis to pursue a Bachelor of Science in practical arts from Ball State University, which he earned in 1975. He subsequently sought a Master of Science in practical arts from the same institution, which he completed in 1979. Driven to serve, he has consistently sought opportunities for civic engagement and has volunteered to help build a church in the Dominican Republic and participated in construction ministry efforts in Kokomo, Indiana. Additionally, Mr. Willis sponsors English school tuition for children in underserved regions across the globe, underscoring his dedication to supporting education and community development internationally.
Mr. Willis has earned an enduring reputation for his expertise in design estimation—a skill that has set him apart throughout his career. He also maintains a robust network through his affiliation with the International Sports Sciences Association. At Ball State Mr. Willis was inducted into the Industrial Arts Honorary, Tau Sigma Delta based on his GPA, evidence of his commitment to ongoing professional development and industry engagement. Mr. Willis attributes his achievements to discipline and a strong work ethic—personal attributes that have consistently motivated his professional and personal advancement.
Mr. Willis's athletic accomplishments are equally noteworthy. He set eight state records in powerlifting and won national championships, including the American Open in 2008 and Next Generation Nationals in 2014 at age 61. He placed second at the Masters Nationals in 2009 and holds an Ohio record with the Southern Powerlifting Federation, which he won at 59 years of age and at an event during which four world records were set. Additionally, Mr. Willis is certified as a sports trainer by the International Sports Sciences Association.
Mr. Willis is the proud father of two sons, and his family also includes three granddaughters. To achieve balance, he persists in weightlifting, powerlifting and bodybuilding activities, and he partners with young competitors on best practices in training and technique. As he looks toward the future, he aims to give back by designing transitional homes for individuals re-entering society after incarceration or other challenges, and Mr. Willis remains committed to making a meaningful impact through service-oriented projects that benefit those most in need.
