CARBONDALE, CO, March 19, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Carlyn Porter has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Ms. Porter has led an equally impactful and diverse career marked by leadership, innovation and a commitment to public health and ecological sustainability. Since 2017, she has held the position of emergency response and epidemiology administrator for Pitkin County, Colorado, where she played a pivotal role in keeping individuals and families safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. Returning from maternity leave at the height of the crisis to lead mass vaccination efforts in the county, she managed logistics for drive-through vaccination clinics in collaboration with the ambulance district, sheriff's department, local hospital and volunteers.
Ms. Porter's leadership on the incident management team was crucial in mobilizing the community and encouraging vaccination uptake despite significant challenges, including staff turnover due to burnout and resistance from residents. Her ability to earn the community's trust during a period when the county adopted more restrictive measures than the State of Colorado stands as one of her proudest professional achievements. She also contributed to ongoing after-action reviews that improved volunteer management and operational coordination.
Concurrently, Ms. Porter has served as the creative director of Carlyn and her Closet — which she founded in 2019 — where she has demonstrated expertise in sustainable fashion, clothing swap parties and curated collections in alignment with evolving industry trends. Her efforts in this role reflects her dedication to both environmental stewardship and community engagement, positioning her as an expert in the field.
From 2016 to 2017, Ms. Porter worked as an environmental health specialist in Aspen, Colorado, where she applied her knowledge of consumer protection and disease prevention to protect public well-being. Also serving as a biological scientist IV with the Florida Department of Health during this time, she further developed her expertise in epidemiology and public health practices while conducting seasonal arbovirus research.
Earlier in her career, Ms. Porter was both a project manager and the acting director of mosquito control for the Martin County Board of County Commissioners from 2015 to 2016, during which she oversaw vector control operations and implemented public health strategies to mitigate disease transmission. From 2013 to 2015, she was a library aide with Broward County Government, supporting access to educational resources throughout the community.
Also known for her impact on the educational sector, Ms. Porter contributed as a graduate teaching assistant at Florida Atlantic University, supporting academic instruction and mentoring students in philosophy and anthropology. She began her professional journey as a counselor at Appletree II Preschool and Kindergarten with Childcare in Vienna, Virginia, from 2006 to 2009.
To share insights and expand her impact beyond her primary roles, Ms. Porter is an active member of industry organizations including the Colorado Emergency Management Association and serves as secretary for the Western Colorado Association of Environmental Health Officers after joining in 2018. Additionally, she is affiliated with the National Rural Health Association as well as Roaring Fork Leadership.
Hailing from an equally accomplished academic background, Ms. Porter earned a Master of Public Health in environmental health from The University of West Florida in 2015. She also obtained a Master of Arts in anthropology in 2014 and a bachelor's degree in psychology and geography in 2011, both from Florida Atlantic University. She is now a graduate student again in Homeland Security and Emergency Management at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs in the College of Public Service.
Reflecting on her storied journey to date, Ms. Porter credits her success to her strong educational foundation as well as the exceptional mentors she has met across disciplines such as anthropology, entomology, environmental health and emergency management. Having valuable opportunities to learn from others and collaborate with knowledgeable professionals has been particularly influential throughout her career.
Beyond her professional pursuits, Ms. Porter is civically engaged as a volunteer with Community Thrift and Treasure. She also participates actively in women's circles that focus on wellness and personal development, having discovered several supportive communities dedicated to overall well-being.
Happily partnered and the proud mother of one son, Ms. Porter is a devoted family woman who enjoys personal development activities including yoga and sound healing alongside spending time with her loved ones and community members.
Determined to further her impact in the coming years, Ms. Porter plans to launch a medical reserve corps for the Roaring Fork Valley through collaboration with local emergency management agencies and health services. Her ultimate aim is to develop a trained volunteer pool for emergency response while expanding her expertise in emergency management, environmental health and community engagement, reflecting her longstanding legacy of helping those in need through everything she does.
