ORRVILLE, AL, March 20, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. William Daniel Henry has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Henry has distinguished himself as a leader in the field of archaeology and cultural resource management, currently serving as site director of Old Cahawba Archaeological Park with the Alabama Historical Commission since 2025. In this capacity, he manages daily operations across the park's 640 acres, supervises a dedicated staff and oversees preservation and interpretation efforts at Alabama's first state capitol historic site. He also leads archaeological field programs and workforce training initiatives for students nationwide, hosting five-week archaeological training programs that prepare participants for careers in cultural resource management.

In addition to these primary responsibilities, Dr. Henry is responsible for documenting historic features, including cemeteries, historic structures, and archaeological sites, and conducting archaeological investigations like ground penetrating radar surveys and site analysis. His administrative oversight extends to budgeting and program coordination, among others, ensuring the park's continued success as a center for education and preservation.

Among Dr. Henry's most significant achievements is the establishment of the AHC CRM Professional Training Program, which he founded as the flagship initiative of the Alabama Historical Commission. Upon certification by the Register of Professional Archaeologists, this program became the first of its kind in the nation—both as a state Historic Preservation Office-operated initiative on such a scale and as the inaugural field school focused specifically on cultural resource management certified by the Register of Professional Archaeologists. Dr. Henry regards this dual distinction as one of his greatest successes, having positively impacted thousands throughout his career. With nearly a decade of experience in field schools, he has personally trained more than 1,200 archaeologists who now contribute meaningfully to the profession.

Prior to his current role, Dr. Henry served as president of ArchaeoPLUS for one year, simultaneously serving as a field director at Tennessee Valley Archaeological Research, managing teams of up to 20 individuals conducting cultural resource management surveys throughout the Southeast United States. His responsibilities included overseeing field operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and fostering professional development among team members.

From 2023 to 2024, Dr. Henry was a field director at All Phases Archaeology, where he supervised field operations and contributed to numerous archaeological projects across diverse environments in the Southeastern United States. Concurrently, from 2018 to 2024, he was involved with ArchaeoTek Canada—a nonprofit organization dedicated to teaching archaeology to university students overseas in Romania—where he played a pivotal role in instructing students in advanced archaeological techniques.

Dr. Henry's foundational experience was as a Latin teacher and college counselor at Cristo Rey Philadelphia High School from 2016 to 2017. His current expertise encompasses archaeological project management, archaeological practice and pedagogy, cultural resource management and field archaeology methods, among many others. He is also an active member of several industry-related organizations, including the Selma-Dallas County Historic Preservation Society, the Register of Professional Archaeologists and the Alabama Archaeological Society.

Educationally, Dr. Henry earned a Doctor of Philosophy in classical archaeology from Sapienza Università di Roma in 2023. During his doctoral studies, he participated in diverse archaeological projects across Italy, Hungary and Greece, as well as with ArchaeoTek in Romania—experiences that broadened his perspective on international research methodologies. He also holds a Master of Arts in sustainable cultural heritage from The American University of Rome and a Bachelor of Arts in classics and classical humanities from Xavier University.

Throughout his career, Dr. Henry has attributed much of his success to lessons imparted by his family—particularly the principle that one should raise their words rather than their voice. This philosophy has shaped his approach to communication: he values clear explanation over forcefulness and views every interaction as an opportunity for teaching and learning alike.

Beyond his professional responsibilities, Dr. Henry is civically engaged as a board member of The Cahaba Foundation and serves as treasurer for the Alabama Archaeological Society. Previously, he served as second vice president of the Alabama Archaeological Society.

Dr. Henry's contributions extend into public outreach through significant media attention from local outlets. He writes a regular column for the Selma Times-Journal discussing park history and current events—a platform that has received overwhelmingly positive feedback from the Selma community—and has appeared multiple times on the front page of Black Belt News Network. Under his leadership, one of Cahawba's cemeteries was recognized nationally as one of the most beautiful in the country.

In his personal life, Dr. Henry enjoys spending time with his wife and dog, hiking and cooking. Looking ahead, he aims to expand Old Cahawba's programs to reach even more students while strengthening Alabama's workforce so that organizations nationwide recognize the state as a leader in archaeology. He remains dedicated to interpreting Old Cahawba's significance for the public and enhancing educational impact through continual refinement of program approaches.
