Since 2013, she has served as a professor of moral theology at the school of theology and ministry at Boston College, where she prepares for classes, teaches, reads new materials and writes extensively. Over more than a decade in this role, Dr. Iozzio has become recognized as a leading scholar in Catholic moral theology, particularly for her pioneering work in disability studies. Her research and teaching emphasize intersectionality, social teaching and the flourishing of people with disabilities, consistently raising awareness about the need for inclusivity and the full personhood of individuals with disabilities.

Before joining Boston College, Dr. Iozzio taught as a professor at Barry University in Miami from 1993 to 2013. During her two decades there, she contributed significantly to academic life through teaching, scholarship and mentorship. Dr. Iozzio's tenure on campus was marked by a dedication to advancing moral theology and fostering an environment attentive to issues of justice.

Dr. Iozzio distinguishes herself not only through her academic achievements but also through her activism committed to justice beyond academia. She is widely regarded as one of the first scholars to integrate disability studies into Catholic moral theology and is noted for her contributions to the discipline's historical development. Dr. Iozzio's approach is informed by a belief in presuming others' goodwill and cultivating a welcoming spirit toward all members of society.

Leveraging an extensive educational foundation, Dr. Iozzio earned a Bachelor of Arts in history, specializing in ancient Greece and Rome, from Pennsylvania State University in 1977. Subsequently, she received a Master of Arts in theology with a focus on the history of religion from Fordham University in 1982, a Master of Arts in biblical studies from Providence College in 1987, and a Doctor of Philosophy in theological ethics from Fordham University in 1994. In addition to her academic degrees, Dr. Iozzio holds a certificate in counseling and spiritual direction from the New York Archdiocese Office of Spiritual Development since 1982 and a licentiate in sacred theology from Boston College since 2019.

Throughout her career, Dr. Iozzio has been an active member of several professional organizations, including the Catholic Theological Society of America, the American Academy of Religion and the Society of Christian Ethics. These affiliations have provided platforms for collaboration and furthered her advocacy for marginalized communities.

Dr. Iozzio has held numerous advisory roles on boards and committees within his community. She has been active on the board of directors for the American Board of Plastic Surgery, a member of the Leadership Council on Interfaith Group Policy Initiatives, an ethics advisory group member for Bon Secours Healthcare System, and, among other organizations, a member of the board of directors for NETWORK Lobby for Catholic Social Justice. Additionally, Dr. Iozzio has served as a lector and eucharistic minister at her local church and as a Saturday morning volunteer for the Boston Food Bank. She has also advocated for social and climate justice at various events and contributes to local park cleanup efforts.

Dr. Iozzio's scholarly output is prolific and influential. She has contributed her service throughout professional circles with extensive book reviews for academic journals and external evaluations of colleagues' work. She also serves as series editor for "Thriving: A Series of Monographs and Collection of Essays" published by Bloomsbury Press since 2026. She previously served for over five years as the co-editor for the Journal of the Society of Christian Ethics. Among her other contributions, she has written for publications such as the Journal of Religious Ethics, Baylor University Press, and Peeters Publishers. She takes satisfaction in her extensive body of publications, including "Radical Dependence: Anthropology, Ethics, and Disability."

Remaining active in scholarship with ongoing projects focused on disability justice, Dr. Iozzio continues to write essays addressing disability justice, including accessibility issues within national parks. She plans future volumes to expand on fundamental moral theology with particular attention to theological virtues.

In addition to her written work, Dr. Iozzio has presented numerous times in her field. Her presentations have included lectures at Fordham University in 2018, national conferences, such as the Kennedy Institute of Ethics at Georgetown University in 2022 and the Institute on Theology and Disability Conference at Boston College in 2024, and annual meetings of the Society of Christian Ethics between 2023 and 2024, among many others. Dr. Iozzio also received an inaugural membership on Boston College's delegation to the COP26 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in 2021.

Dr. Iozzio's career has been recognized with numerous honors, including professional development awards at Barry University between 1994 and 2013, receipt of the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Medal from Mount St. Joseph University in 2018, and selection as one of the Top 500 Most Influential Professionals in 2025. She attributes her achievements to perseverance, a deep concern for those who have been marginalized or abused and an unwavering commitment to bringing the insights of moral theology into contemporary discourse.
