CHAMPAIGN, IL, March 25, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Fredrick Bahr has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Bahr's distinguished career in the organ building industry spans nearly five decades, marked by leadership, technical mastery and a deep commitment to mentoring the next generation. Since joining Buzard Organ Builders LLC in Champaign, Illinois, six years ago, he has held several pivotal roles. Initially appointed as service department manager, he oversaw maintenance for approximately 230 clients across the United States, ensuring regular tuning and repairs of pipe organs. His attention to detail and client-focused approach quickly established him as an indispensable member of the team.
A year into his tenure at Buzard Organ Builders LLC, Mr. Bahr was approached by company founder John Paul Buzard to assume the role of tonal director—a position that aligned with his greatest passion in the field. In this capacity, he collaborated closely with voicers to ensure each custom-made pipe produced its intended sound.
In 2023, as Mr. Buzard prepared for retirement, a gradual transition began that culminated in Mr. Bahr assuming the responsibilities of acting president. In this role, he manages administrative duties, scheduling and client relations while supporting staff development and encouraging professional growth among apprentices and colleagues. He is also actively involved in training his successor, supporting the sales director and providing leads to help expand the business.
Prior to his work at Buzard Organ Builders LLC, Mr. Bahr served as shop manager and teaching faculty at the University of Oklahoma for three years. The university's program was unique as the only academic offering in pipe organ building in the United States at that time. There, he taught young people how to build pipe organs, fostering a collaborative environment and passing on invaluable skills until administrative changes led to the program's closure.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Bahr worked as tonal director at Kegg Pipe Organ Builders in Hartville, Ohio for seventeen years, focusing on the design and voicing of new organs. He also held the position of tonal director at Patrick J. Murphy & Associates Inc., where he further honed his expertise in voicing and tonal finishing.
Throughout his professional journey since 1978, Mr. Bahr has maintained excellent relationships with every company he has served, earning a reputation for collegiality and collaboration within the close-knit organ building community. He is known on a first-name basis by many peers nationwide and takes pride in fostering connections across the industry.
Mr. Bahr's influence extends beyond his direct professional roles through active participation in several industry organizations. He served as president of the American Institute of Organbuilders for three years and remains engaged as a contributor and former editor of its journal, continuing to write articles that share insights with fellow professionals. Additionally, he is affiliated with the Associated Pipe Organ Builders of America—a consortium representing about 30 builders ranging from large firms to smaller workshops—as well as the American Guild of Organists and the Organ Historical Society.
Academically, Mr. Bahr's foundation was laid at Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan, where he earned a Bachelor of Music in organ performance in 1978. Having played organ since age 11, his early immersion in music shaped his career trajectory; during his senior year of college, an opportunity arose with an organ builder despite his lack of prior experience in construction or repair. He learned on the job and credits his adaptability and willingness to learn from others as key factors in his success.
In addition to his education, Mr. Bahr's upbringing in Uruguay, Bolivia and Peru instilled an appreciation for diversity and broadened his perspective. These qualities have enriched both his personal interactions and professional collaborations throughout his life.
For centuries, pipe organs have been most closely associated with churches; however, as cultural dynamics evolve, Mr. Bahr has become passionate about broadening appreciation for the instrument beyond traditional religious settings. In addition to teaching young people how to play, he advocates for introducing organ music in more secular venues, believing its distinctive sound connects with audiences in a powerful and deeply moving way, regardless of religious affiliation. His legacy is defined not only by technical achievements but also by a profound dedication to mentorship—an accomplishment he regards as his greatest source of pride throughout a remarkable career devoted to excellence in organ building and service to others.
Beyond his primary vocation, Mr. Bahr has contributed significantly to civic life and creative endeavors. He has served continuously as an organist at church since age 13—a testament to his enduring passion for music—and supports organizations like Eastern Illinois Foodbank and The Trevor Project through charitable contributions. As an editor and writer, he has published numerous journal articles related to organ building and music. He is also an accomplished photographer with 19 photobooks showcasing nature and architectural subjects.
Born in Loma Linda, Mr. Bahr enjoys playing the organ every weekend at church, taking photographs—particularly of nature and architecture—traveling extensively and going on cruises. Looking ahead, he is preparing for Buzard Organ Builders LLC's move into a new facility designed specifically for their needs—a milestone that will support continued growth for the company. Despite being eligible for retirement, he remains dedicated to his craft and is committed to sharing knowledge with younger colleagues while breaking down barriers within the industry.
