FAYETTEVILLE, NC, March 25, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Rev. Dr. Floyd W. Johnson Jr. has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Johnson's distinguished career is marked by decades of leadership, service, and academic achievement. From 2006 to 2023, he served as the academic dean at Cumberland University in North Carolina. In this capacity, Dr. Johnson was responsible for designing and implementing bachelor's- and master's-level academic curricula, delivering off-campus, district-based seminary programs, and recruiting international students, with a particular focus on those from South Korea. He helped expand the university's global outreach to Mongolia, coordinated with international directors to lead overseas initiatives, and facilitated international students' access to degrees. Dr. Johnson managed annual international convocations and graduations, oversaw housing, meals, and logistics for visiting cohorts, and hosted cultural and city tours for international students. His efforts also included cultivating relationships with civic leaders and community stakeholders to further the university's mission.

Before his tenure at Cumberland University, Dr. Johnson dedicated 26 years to the United States Army, retiring with distinction. His military service instilled in him a commitment to discipline, leadership, and public service that would inform his subsequent roles in academia, ministry, and civic engagement.

Dr. Johnson's professional journey also includes significant involvement with industry-related organizations. He was a member of the Federal Emergency Management Agency from 1999 to 2005, contributing to emergency preparedness and response initiatives. From 2001 to 2003, he participated in the Greater Fayetteville Futures Project, collaborating with local partners to attract new businesses and industries and to support educational programs in partnership with Cape Fear Valley Medical Center and Methodist University.

His academic credentials are extensive. Dr. Johnson earned a Doctor of Theology from Cumberland University in 2006, which provided the foundation for his leadership as academic dean. He also holds a Doctor of Divinity in Christian Education from Carolina University of Theology, awarded in 1994, equipping him with advanced knowledge in religious studies and pedagogy. Earlier in his academic journey, he began his biblical studies at Campbell University. These achievements have been instrumental in shaping his approach to curriculum development, student mentorship, and global outreach.

Dr. Johnson attributes his success to formative experiences during his youth in Philadelphia. Growing up in a challenging neighborhood environment dominated by gangs, he initially felt compelled to join for self-preservation, but managed to avoid serious legal trouble. His time at Overbrook High School proved pivotal when an unexpected opportunity led him to join the football team as a freshman. After setbacks stemming from complacency, he returned with renewed determination and earned all-city honors, a turning point that instilled resilience and a sense of purpose. Later in life, a spiritual awakening further solidified his commitment to serving others.

His introduction to Cumberland University came through personal connections developed during his military service in Fayetteville, where he formed close relationships within the Korean community. A Korean friend who owned a cleaning business introduced him to the university, setting the stage for his influential role as academic dean.

Dr. Johnson's civic engagement is both broad and impactful. He has served on the general executive board of the United American Free Will Baptist Church, overseeing more than 100 churches nationwide, with a focus on discipline and governance aligned with the church's doctrine. As a co-founder, secretary, and board member of the Senior Citizen Action Team from 1994 to 1999, he advocated for the interests of senior citizens in the community.

He has held multiple leadership positions within political organizations, including serving as chairman and second vice chairman of the Cumberland County Democratic Party, and as vice president and treasurer of the Cumberland County Democratic Men's Club from 1999 to 2005. Dr. Johnson was president, vice president, and secretary of the Fayetteville/Cumberland County Ministerial Council, a tenure recognized as a recipient of the Lifetime Service Award in 2014, but was also awarded the prestigious "Golden Jacket" as a former president of the council.

His commitment to social justice is reflected in his service as commissioner for the Human Relations Commission during two separate terms from 1997 to 1999 and again from 2014 to 2015; as second vice president of the NAACP Fayetteville from 2002 to 2005; as vice chair of the Cumberland County Mental Health Board from 2005 to 2011; as chairman of the Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks & Recreation Advisory Commission from 1997 to 2005; as co-chair of the Economic Business Partnership under the Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce from 2001 to 2002; as treasurer for Awareness Resources Education (CARES) Board; as chaplain for the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office from 1999 to 2000; and as a board member of the Good News Project at Fayetteville State University focusing on health concerns within the African American community.

Currently, Dr. Johnson remains active with the Fayetteville-Cumberland County Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Committee, where he serves as parliamentarian and special counsel to the president.

His contributions have been recognized with numerous honors, including North Carolina's Order of the Long Leaf Pine, the state's highest honor, awarded by Governor Roy Cooper.
