Since 2019, she has served as chief of campus police and director of public safety at Frederick Community College. Dr. Shusko's foundational experience was gained during her service with the Montgomery County Police Department in Maryland from 1998 to 2013. Her tenure there included significant events, such as the Beltway sniper shootings, where she demonstrated resilience and professionalism under pressure. She began her association with the department in a civilian administrative role after earning her bachelor's degree but soon transitioned to sworn service upon realizing her passion lay in direct law enforcement work. Over her fifteen-year career with the department, she earned recognition for her service and developed expertise that would inform her later contributions to campus safety.

Dr. Shusko's professional affiliations reflect a deep commitment to advancing the field of campus law enforcement and supporting women in higher education. She served as an advisory board member for the Campus Safety Conference and is an active member of the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators. She is also the immediate past president of the Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators, Chesapeake Region, and maintains membership with the American Association for Women in Community Colleges.

Academically, Dr. Shusko's achievements have been instrumental in shaping her approach to leadership and public safety. She earned a Doctor of Education in educational leadership in 2024. She also holds a Master of Science in learning design and technology from the University of Maryland Global Campus, a Master of Arts in forensic psychology from Marymount University, and a Master of Arts in human sciences – psychology from Hood College. In addition, she earned a graduate certificate in public safety executive leadership from the University of Maryland Global Campus. She also holds the Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) designation through the International Association of Emergency Managers, reflecting advanced expertise in emergency management and preparedness. She earned her bachelor's degree in psychology from Frostburg State University in 1997. She has also contributed to the field through the publication of multiple professional and scholarly articles on campus safety and leadership.

Beyond her professional responsibilities, Dr. Shusko has demonstrated civic engagement through volunteer missions in Guatemala, reflecting her dedication to service beyond her immediate community. She has contributed to thought leadership as a speaker at conferences and through published articles that address critical issues in campus safety and emergency preparedness. In her personal life, she enjoys lifelong learning, participating in professional development and continuing education opportunities, and listening to audiobooks. She is also dedicated to her family, which includes three daughters, and enjoys time with two dogs.

Reflecting on her career, Dr. Shusko attributes her success to an insatiable drive for knowledge, a passion for networking, and the influence of accomplished colleagues who have inspired her throughout her career. Looking ahead, she is committed to further developing the police department at Frederick Community College by enhancing training programs and providing additional resources for leadership development.
