Mary Pfost Norton, MD, FAAP, is a board-certified general pediatrician practicing at Tallahassee Pediatrics within Tallahassee Medical Group. Her clinical work focuses on community pediatrics, integrated behavioral health, and trauma-informed care.

Dr. Norton joined Tallahassee Pediatrics in 2023. In addition to providing primary care, she collaborates with the Florida State University (FSU) Center for Behavioral Health Integration as a pediatric content expert. In this role, she works with community pediatricians and behavioral health professionals to improve access to care, develop training programs, and support coordination for children with behavioral health needs across the Big Bend region.

She has served as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the FSU College of Medicine, Tallahassee Regional Campus, since 2024, where she teaches and precepts medical and physician assistant students.

From 2017 to 2023, Dr. Norton was an Assistant Professor at the FSU College of Medicine. During that time, she was a founding pediatrician at FSU PrimaryHealth, a community-based clinic established in partnership with the Leon County Community Partnership School at Sabal Palm Elementary. Her work there focused on integrating primary care and behavioral health services in an underserved community. She also held leadership roles in medical education, including Assistant Director and later Co-Director of the M2 Clinical Skills course.

Earlier in her career, following residency, she spent a year as a stay-at-home parent before entering academic medicine.

Dr. Norton completed her pediatric residency at Greenville Children's Hospital in South Carolina in 2016. She earned her Doctor of Medicine from the Florida State University College of Medicine in 2013 and graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry from Florida State University in 2008. She also holds an EMT-B certification from Taylor Technical Institute. She is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics.

Her professional work is centered on strengthening systems of care for children and families. She has been actively involved in school-based health initiatives, pediatric behavioral health integration, and community partnerships aimed at improving access to care.

Dr. Norton is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Florida Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Florida Medical Association, and the Capital Medical Society. She was elected to the Capital Medical Society Board of Governors in 2025. She also serves on the Capital Area Healthy Start Fetal Infant Mortality Review Board and participates in the Pediatric Quality Improvement Committee at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare.

Her academic contributions include a co-authored textbook chapter on child abuse and neglect and invited presentations on topics such as trauma-informed care and child maltreatment. She has also contributed to community and professional publications on pediatric health topics.

Dr. Norton has received recognition for her teaching and mentorship, including the Faculty Advisor of the Year Award from the FSU College of Medicine Student Council.

She was born in Sarasota, Florida, and lives in Tallahassee with her husband and four daughters. Outside of medicine, she enjoys ceramics, spending time outdoors, and family activities.

Looking ahead, Dr. Norton aims to earn a partnership at her practice while contributing to public health advocacy efforts opposing reductions in vaccine requirements within Florida. She remains committed to fostering collaboration among community partners to bridge gaps in health care delivery and support families throughout the region.
