Dr. Samuels has established a distinguished career in mental health, marked by more than two decades of dedicated service and leadership. Since 2019, he has served as the chief executive officer and owner of Samuels Holistic Counseling Services LLC, where he provides structured therapy to clients of all ages, including children as young as three, teenagers, adolescents, and young adults. His practice emphasizes teaching four core skills—mindfulness, acceptance, distress tolerance and emotional regulation—alongside interpersonal effectiveness to help individuals build fulfilling lives. Dr. Samuels is recognized for his expertise in treating depression, anxiety, personality disorders, narcissism, borderline personality disorder and bipolar disorder. He also conducts play therapy with younger children and offers couples therapy tailored to each client's unique needs.

In his current role, Dr. Samuels collaborates closely with a network of professionals to ensure comprehensive care for his clients. This includes working alongside Dr. Daniela Jones, a psychiatrist who performs psychological evaluations and assessments for both children and adults, as well as a dual-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner who prescribes medication in both psychiatric and medical settings. Dr. Samuels is also expanding his team by hiring an applied behavior analysis therapist to support children with autism in schools and homes. His collaborative approach is rooted in the belief that networking among clinicians, psychiatrists and psychologists creates a one-stop shop for mental health services, making it easier for clients to access the care they need.

From 2022 to 2023, Dr. Samuels was a psychotherapist at GlobeCoRe Inc., where he provided individual and group counseling services while continuing his work at Samuels Holistic Counseling Services LLC. During this period, he also served as a psychotherapist at Balanced Living Counseling Center from 2020 to 2023, further broadening his clinical experience with diverse populations.

Between 2020 and 2022, Dr. Samuels served as clinical director at Georgia Healthcare Services. In this capacity, he oversaw clinical operations and supervised staff while ensuring high standards of care for clients facing complex mental health challenges. Before this role, he was an assistant clinical director at Apex Family Healthcare Services from 2018 to 2020, where he managed teams that delivered intensive family intervention services.

Dr. Samuels' earlier roles include assistant team leader at A New Day LLC from 2017 to 2018 and assertive community treatment team psychotherapist at Genesis Healthcare from 2016 to 2017. He also worked as an intake coordinator at Positive Life from 2014 to 2016 and as a psychotherapist and wrap-around counselor at Marvelous Light Consultants Counseling Services from 2014 to 2015.

His foundational experience in the field began with nine years as a paraprofessional and family intervention specialist after being recruited by Dr. David Anthony at Family Intervention Specialists. In this role, Dr. Samuels led teams that provided daily home visits to families in crisis or navigating adoption stabilization. He also spent two years as a senior probation officer at Henry County Juvenile Court in Atlanta, where he referred youth to mental health services. This pivotal experience inspired his transition into counseling.

Throughout his career, Dr. Samuels has developed expertise in crisis intervention, intensive family intervention, neurodivergent children's care, trauma-based counseling and substance abuse assessment and counseling. He is highly skilled in individual, family, adolescent, adult and group counseling as well as anger management and assertive community treatment.

Dr. Samuels is an active member of several professional organizations, including Black Leaders Worldwide since 2025; the National Board for Certified Counselors Inc., which he joined in 2015; the American Mental Health Counselors Association since 2014; Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology; Alpha Chi; and Blue Key Organization.

His academic journey reflects both perseverance and excellence. Dr. Samuels earned a Doctor of Philosophy in general psychology with an emphasis on performance psychology from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix in 2023. He completed a master's in Professional Counseling with a focus on counseling psychology at Grand Canyon University in 2015, after returning to school to pursue his passion for therapy full-time.

He holds a master's degree in public administration from Georgia State University in Atlanta, awarded in 1996, a degree that initially led him toward state government before he discovered his calling in mental health services due to barriers faced by African Americans seeking employment in that sector at the time.

Dr. Samuels' undergraduate studies culminated with a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice and corrections from Armstrong State University (now Georgia Southern University) in Savannah in 1994. As an undergraduate student, he became highly visible on campus through various jobs—including delivering packages for UPS—and was elected vice president, then president of the Student Government Association under the mentorship of Professor George Brown.

He has obtained numerous certifications that underscore his commitment to professional development: certified clinical telemental health provider through PESI Inc., certified professional counselor supervisor through Licensed Professional Counselors Association, certification in dialectical behavior therapy through PESI Inc., nationally certified professional counselor through National Board for Certified Counselors Inc., CPI Blue Card nonviolent crisis training and certification in CPR and first aid through the National CPR Foundation American Heart Association Inc.

Dr. Samuels credits much of his success to the hard work and dedication instilled by his mother and grandmother during his upbringing in Savannah, as well as to influential mentors such as Pastors John and Johnny Beam, who encouraged him throughout his academic journey.

His civic engagement includes volunteering pro bono services for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Inc., reflecting his deep commitment to giving back to the community, a value shaped by early experiences with Pastor Beam's outreach efforts.

Dr. Samuels' contributions extend beyond clinical practice into authorship and thought leadership within mental health advocacy. He authored "Dr. Samuels Blueprint for a Balanced Love Life," published by Spines; "Breaking Down the Barriers to Helping People Achieve Sound Mental Health," published by BookBaby; "My Journey to Mental Health Defined by Character & Accountability," also published by BookBaby; along with various articles about autism.

His achievements have been recognized through nominations, including being featured in the CEO Scoop Magazine.

Born in Savannah, Dr. Samuels enjoys spending time with his family, including four sons; following college football, with a particular interest in the Oklahoma Sooners; camping outdoors; or simply relaxing under the night sky, watching the moon or movies together.
