Concurrently, in 2022, he served as the interim chief nursing officer, providing executive oversight during a critical transition period for the facility. He provided clinical input and oversight to the building of a brand-new inpatient tower, nearly doubling the size of the original hospital.

Mr. Miller-Houghton initially joined CommonSpirit Health as an intensive care unit and respiratory manager in 2020, during which he directed ICU operations and respiratory therapy teams. Additionally, during the COVID-19 pandemic, he provided crucial emotional support for his team, guiding them through unprecedented challenges while supporting their dedication to the profession. His outstanding leadership, which contributed to improved clinical processes and enhanced collaboration among teams, was recognized in 2023 when he received the Nurse of the Year award.

From 2018 to 2020, Mr. Miller-Houghton held several key leadership roles in Chicago-area hospitals, demonstrating a strong commitment to operational excellence and patient-centered care. As nurse manager and ultimately interim director of emergency and observation services at MetroSouth Medical Center from 2018 to 2019, he oversaw daily departmental operations and implemented protocols that improved patient safety and satisfaction. He then served from 2019 to 2020 as interim executive chief nursing officer and emergency department director at Norwegian American Hospital, where he guided the organization through significant operational changes while emphasizing quality improvement and staff engagement.

Earlier in his well-traveled career, Mr. Miller-Houghton spent three years as an emergency manager at Tampa General Hospital in Florida. One of his most significant accomplishments occurred during this tenure, when he contributed to a major overhaul of the emergency department's workflow.

Facing wait times that extended up to four hours before patients could see a nurse, Mr. Miller-Houghton was pivotal in redesigning processes that dramatically improved efficiency and the patient experience at Tampa General. His leadership not only benefited the hospital but also garnered international recognition; he was later invited to Australia to share insights on the improvements he had implemented.

Hailing from an equally accomplished academic background, Mr. Miller-Houghton earned a Master of Business Administration in health care administration from Western Governors University as well as a Master of Science in Nursing from South University. He also completed a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Ohio University in 2012 after obtaining an Associate of Science in Nursing from West Virginia University three years earlier.

To augment his expertise in nursing administration, Mr. Miller-Houghton is dual board-certified as both a nurse executive and a family nurse practitioner, and he holds licensure as a registered nurse and an advanced practice nurse.
