HONOLULU, HI, April 06, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Ave Kwok has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Kwok has established a distinguished career spanning 30 years, marked by leadership roles and a commitment to community revitalization. Since 2023, he has served as chairman of Maunakea Marketplace in Honolulu, where he owns and manages 79 commercial and 38 affordable housing tenants. In this capacity, Mr. Kwok oversees day-to-day operations with the commercial team, collects rent, monitors common-area maintenance charges and ensures healthy income and revenue for the shopping mall. His stewardship has been instrumental in fostering a vibrant business environment and supporting local commerce.
In addition to his responsibilities at Maunakea Marketplace, Mr. Kwok is also chief financial officer of Vertical Rise Solutions in Honolulu and managing partner of 115 unit Hoku Pa'a Living Center in Punaluu, both roles he began in 2026. At Vertical Rise Solutions, he directs financial strategy and operational oversight of an elevator business, while at Hoku Pa'a Living Center, he leads property development initiatives that contribute to the region's senior economic growth.
Mr. Kwok's entrepreneurial journey includes his ongoing partnership with Jade Dynasty Seafood Restaurant at Ala Moana Shopping Center since 2011. Drawing on his extensive background in restaurant management and construction, he has played a pivotal role in the restaurant's success and expansion. His initial foray into the industry began in 1995 as a restaurant manager, where he focused on opening new locations and ultimately managed around seven establishments. This early experience laid the foundation for his later ventures in both hospitality and property development.
His professional trajectory reflects a dynamic blend of expertise across multiple sectors. After stepping away from the restaurant industry in 2003, Mr. Kwok shifted his focus to construction in 2004, gaining valuable skills that would later inform his approach to property acquisition and development beginning around 2015. By 2019, as the pandemic presented unprecedented challenges to local businesses—particularly those in economically distressed areas such as Chinatown—Mr. Kwok dedicated significant time, resources and energy to supporting these communities. His efforts led to a notable 32 percent reduction in crime within Chinatown, underscoring his belief that true success is measured by positive community impact rather than personal wealth.
Mr. Kwok's leadership extends beyond his business endeavors through active involvement with industry organizations. He serves as chairman of the Hawai'i Restaurant Association, where he advocates for the interests of restaurateurs statewide and was recognized with the Hall of Fame Entrepreneur Award by the association in 2024.
His commitment to civic engagement is further demonstrated by his participation with the Chinatown Community Foundation in Honolulu and fundraising efforts for Maui wildfire relief initiatives. These activities reflect his dedication to fostering resilience and well-being within Hawaii's diverse communities.
Mr. Kwok's academic achievements have provided a strong foundation for his multifaceted career. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in hotel, motel and restaurant management from Brigham Young University–Hawaii in 1993, followed by a Master of Tourism Administration with a focus on tourism promotion operations from The George Washington University in 2009. He is currently pursuing doctoral coursework in cultural studies, critical theories and analysis at the College of International Cultural Exchange at Central China Normal University. Mr. Kwok attributes his success to starting with fundamental principles and developing skills through hard work, emphasizing leadership by example rather than authority.
Born in Hubei, Mr. Kwok enjoys driving and relaxing in his free time. He is also a father of two children.
Looking ahead, Mr. Kwok intends to acquire two elderly care centers—one with approximately 150 beds and another with 328 units—to activate facilities that are either at risk of closure or well-run but expensive. He also plans to consolidate several smaller properties into larger shopping centers while building more affordable housing units by advocating for and implementing Hawaii's Build 7 ordinance, which he helped write. Currently, there are about 32 applications under this ordinance, with approximately 30 potentially yielding 1,200 affordable rental units if all move forward.
Mr. Kwok's enduring legacy is defined by his unwavering dedication to community improvement, innovative leadership across industries and steadfast commitment to creating lasting positive change throughout Hawaii.
