Prior to his current role, Mr. Thomson was director of multifamily acquisitions at Eighteen Capital Group from 2011 to 2017. During this period, he played a pivotal role in building a portfolio for him and his partners by identifying and securing high-value, workforce-housing multifamily opportunities. Notably, he and his partners focused on acquiring assets that could both achieve an exceptional return and improve and operate successfully at rents lower than competing properties in the market area. Over more than two decades in the industry, Mr. Thomson considers his most significant accomplishment to be the cumulative impact of his work—co-founding a company that evolved to ultimately track the rent payments of 26 million renters and helping to provide housing for tens of thousands of residents while responsibly managing hundreds of millions of dollars in investor capital. His dual focus on delivering superior returns and housing affordability exemplifies a balanced approach that has defined his enduring and impactful career.

Mr. Thomson's academic background laid a strong foundation for his professional achievements. He earned a Master of Science in real estate development from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Department of Urban Studies and Planning in Cambridge in 1999. This advanced degree equipped him with analytical skills and strategic insights that have proven invaluable in navigating complex real estate markets. His master's thesis, "An Hedonic Analysis of the Dallas/Fort Worth Multifamily Housing Market," is still relevant today. And its principles still guide him. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in business administration with a concentration in finance from the University of Florida Warrington College of Business. These academic experiences at prestigious institutions provided not only technical expertise but also reinforced his commitment to ethical business practices and long-term value creation.

Mr. Thomson's interest in real estate was sparked during childhood when his family lived temporarily in an apartment, inspiring him to one day provide housing while building a portfolio of properties. After initially pursuing investment banking—rising rapidly to become senior vice president at Lehman Brothers in his late twenties—he recognized the need for greater flexibility and fulfillment. While still working in finance, he began investing in real estate with discretionary income, eventually transitioning fully into the field despite skepticism from colleagues who noted his financial success in banking. The journey included periods of both challenge and reward but ultimately led to the freedom and balance that motivated his career shift.

Aside from direct multifamily investment, Mr. Thomson would ultimately have a major impact on the multifamily industry with an early entrepreneurial effort shortly after graduating from MIT. In the early 2000s, there was no central repository of rental payment history, including the major credit bureaus. Consumers couldn't showcase or benefit from on-time payment of likely their largest monthly expense. And building owners did not have a reliable tool to determine a prospect's specific suitability as an apartment tenant. Mr. Thomson co-founded a venture called ResCheck to address the market need for a company focused on using developing technology to track rent payments. ResCheck ultimately became RentBureau.com and was sold to Experian. Today, Experian RentBureau is recognized as the largest and most widely used database of rental payment information in the U.S.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Mr. Thomson is dedicated to select philanthropic causes, such as Wounded Warriors and Tunnel to Towers, which support veterans and first responders.

Although he has received recognition throughout his career, Mr. Thomson places little emphasis on accolades or formal honors, viewing them as secondary to the intrinsic value of consistent effort and balanced living. His industry contributions extend into authorship as well; he is nearing completion of a book on economics—a project that has occupied much of the past year and attracted interest from publishers. Regardless of commercial outcome, he regards this work as a meaningful achievement that encapsulates his personal and professional journey.

In his personal life, Mr. Thomson is the father of three daughters. He enjoys outdoor activities like skiing, mountain biking, hiking, dirt biking, playing golf, and motorcycle racing.
