LEAVENWORTH, KS, April 15, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Field D. Walters has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Demonstrating a longstanding commitment to both academic excellence and professional growth, Mr. Walters has established himself as an expert in chemistry and biology. In 2025, he began serving as an adjunct professor at Metropolitan Community College, Kansas City, where he prepares lesson plans for introductory chemistry courses, demonstrates proper laboratory techniques and develops exams and assignments to assess student learning. His dedication to student success is further reflected in his concurrent role as an adjunct professor at Kansas City Kansas Community College, which he also began in 2024.
Prior to his current roles, Mr. Walters contributed to the University of Missouri, Kansas City as a teaching assistant from 2024 to 2025. In this capacity, he supported faculty in delivering laboratory lessons and provided guidance to students navigating complex scientific concepts. His experience in academia is complemented by his earlier work as an emergency medicine scribe with Scribe America in 2024, where he gained firsthand exposure to clinical environments and the importance of precise documentation in patient care.
In 2022, Mr. Walters served as an analytical chemist at Sensient Technologies Corporation, a leading manufacturer of extracts, colors and flavors used in foods and beverages. This role allowed him to apply his expertise in chemistry within an industrial setting, conducting analyses that contributed to product development and quality assurance.
Alongside his primary roles, Mr. Walters has maintained active memberships in distinguished organizations including the National Honor Society, the Society for Collegiate Leadership and Achievement, and the National Society of Leadership and Success, underscoring his commitment to leadership and professional development.
Also known for his extensive scholarly output, Mr. Walters has published several scientific works that appear in influential publications including the Public Library of Science (PLOS One), the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology and Proquest.
Hailing from an equally robust educational background, Mr. Walters earned a Master of Arts in biology from the University of Missouri, Kansas City in 2025, a Master of Science in chemistry at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) in 2017 and a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry from the same institution in 2015.
A significant milestone in Mr. Walters' academic journey was his graduate thesis at SIUE. This research project explored how microbiosis influences Alzheimer's disease by investigating the use of a drug designed to stimulate microglial cells — the brain's macrophages — to phagocytose amyloid beta plaques associated with disease progression. Although the drug did not yield the anticipated results, the findings indicated potential benefits if administered early in the treatment process.
Mr. Walters' work illuminated the diverse roles of microglia, particularly their sensory function in detecting cellular distress and recruiting additional microglia for cleanup — a process relevant to amyloid beta plaque clearance. The research highlighted that while microglia are initially effective at clearing plaques during the early stages of Alzheimer's disease, their response diminishes over time as they remain in a sensory state without active cleanup.
To augment his scientific leadership qualifications, Mr. Walters was certified as a phlebotomist by Southwestern Illinois College in 2011 and obtained certificates from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in community preparedness and incident command systems.
Reflecting on his storied journey thus far, Mr. Walters credits his success to the unwavering support of his wife Janine and their seven children, whose encouragement consistently motivates him through challenges. He also acknowledges the positive influence of community members who inspire him to persist in his pursuits. Driven by natural curiosity and a passion for continuous learning, he remains committed to the ideals of continuous learning across diverse fields.
Determined to further his impact in the coming years, Mr. Walters aspires to gain admission to medical school with aspirations of becoming a neurologist, neurosurgeon or pursuing a related specialty. His life and career reflect a unique blend of scientific inquiry, educational leadership and dedication to advancing knowledge for the benefit of current and future generations alike.
