SANTA BARBARA, CA, April 22, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Philip E. Palmquist has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Palmquist has built a distinguished career spanning five decades in the field of tax accounting, demonstrating exceptional expertise in corporate tax accounting, individual returns, as well as administration of estates and trusts. A steadfast commitment to client advocacy and a reputation for integrity and excellence mark his professional journey.
Since 1980, Mr. Palmquist has served as a certified public accountant at Hocking Denton Palmquist, where he became a founding partner on August 1, 1980. Upon being hired by Thomas M. Hocking, CPA in October 1976, just six months after graduating from Westmont College, Mr. Palmquist contributed to the firm's remarkable growth, as Hocking Denton Palmquist's revenue increased from approximately $500,000 to more than $10 million by 2007. Although his buyout from his firm was completed on January 1, 2022, he continues to practice as an emeritus partner with the firm. Throughout his tenure, Mr. Palmquist has worked with numerous high-profile clients, including celebrities, CEOs and trustees of large estates. Among his most notable achievements was working with the iconic comedian Jonathan Winters, for whom he served as agent during Mr. Winters' later years, providing dedicated care and support. He also took pride in collaborating with the authors of "What to Expect When You're Expecting," Disney Legend Harriet Burns (who was the very first female imagineer hired by Mr. Walt Disney) and many other clients from all walks of life.
Before his tenure at Hocking Denton Palmquist, Mr. Palmquist worked for the State of California's Employment Development Department from 1975 to 1976 as an auditor and collection agent. In this capacity, he gained valuable experience in state tax processes but found greater fulfillment advocating for taxpayers and ensuring individuals paid only their proper share of taxes to the government.
Mr. Palmquist's academic background laid a strong foundation for his professional accomplishments. He earned a Master of Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting from California State University, Los Angeles, in 1979, graduating magna cum laude and being inducted into the national Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society that same year. He previously completed a Bachelor of Arts in economics and business at Westmont College in 1976. His credentials include certification as a CPA by the California Board of Accountancy from 1980 to 2026. The work ethic instilled by his parents and the influence of his grandparents have been instrumental in shaping his approach to business and life, emphasizing kindness and consideration toward others.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Mr. Palmquist has demonstrated a deep commitment to civic engagement and community service. He has been an active member of the Rotary Club of Santa Barbara North since 2025 and previously served as treasurer for several organizations: Bakersfield Rescue Mission for 10 years, Rotary Club of Montecito for five years, and Santa Barbara Children's Museum for three years. His leadership extended to board memberships with the Crippled Children's Society, the Westmont Parents Council, and the Westmont Alumni Board. Additionally, he is an active member of Redeemer Bible Church and has participated in various church boards and committees. His contributions have been recognized with honors, including a plaque of recognition for a significant contribution to the Global Leadership Center at Westmont College and the Rotary Club of Montecito's Rotarian of the Month.
Born in Minneapolis, Mr. Palmquist values family life with his spouse of 48 years, Robyn Louise Palmquist, and their happily married children, Mary Kathryn Kihlstrom, Sarah Louise Squire, as well as their six amazing grandchildren. He enjoys collecting vintage baseball cards, watching Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Lakers games, spending time with numerous extended family members, walking on the beach and photography.
Looking ahead, Mr. Palmquist aims to continue serving his clients while remaining active within his community and professional circles. He currently serves approximately 100 clients and remains involved with the Rotary Club of Santa Barbara North. He also plans to stay engaged on online forums, sharing positivity and his photography, and aspiring to eventually reach 5,000 followers on LinkedIn. Mr. Palmquist is dedicated to being a source of support for those around him, always striving to set a positive example through his actions and outlook on life.
