In her first year at the institution, half of her class received the national Spanish award, a testament to her dedication as an educator and her ability to inspire students to excel at both statewide and national levels. Concurrently, Ms. Setter-San Miguel is the chief executive officer of Bacán for Teachers, a brand she founded in 2024 to support educators through conference assistance and classroom resources. Her vision for Bacán for Teachers is to help teachers find joy in their profession and enhance their instructional practices. She continues to expand this initiative, aiming to reach a broader audience of educators.

Before these roles, Ms. Setter-San Miguel taught Spanish at Silver Bluff High School from 2023 to 2024, where she further honed her teaching methods and contributed to student success. Her expertise extends beyond language instruction; since 2016, she has also worked as an art director under her own name, Andrea Setter, applying her creative talents to various projects. A prolific creator, she is also the independent author of two published books, "La estrella que aprendió a brillar" and "La aventura de Luna."

Her earlier career includes serving as a senior art director at Otelo & Fabell in Ecuador in 2015 and teaching at Universidad Santa María, Campus Guayaquil, in 2014. From 2013 to 2014, she was the editorial design director at Editorial Televisa and also taught at the Instituto de Formación Superior in Ecuador. Between 2012 and 2014, she served as creative art director at Revista Ser Padres Ecuador.

Ms. Setter-San Miguel's background in graphic design is extensive. She worked as a graphic designer for Genetic ID in 2012; Magazine UPGRADE at Banco de Guayaquil from 2011 to 2013; Intellifusion Technologies in 2011; and Revista Hogar in Ecuador from 2010 to 2012. Additionally, she served as a communication analyst for the Undersecretariat of Aquaculture in Ecuador from 2010 to 2011 and began her professional journey as a graphic designer with Graficas Herrería from 2009 to 2010.

Her professional affiliations include serving as an executive member of the Georgia Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. This role underscores her leadership within the field and commitment to advancing language education.

Ms. Setter-San Miguel's academic achievements have been instrumental in shaping her career trajectory. She earned a master's degree in educational management and leadership from Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja in Ecuador in 2014. This advanced training provided her with the skills necessary for effective school leadership and curriculum innovation. Furthering her expertise in language instruction, she also earned a specialized certification in 2026 from the Universidad de Salamanca in teaching Spanish grammar as a second language at the A1 level. Additionally, She also holds a bachelor's degree in design management and visual communication with a minor in corporate identity from Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, completed in 2008. Her educational background has enabled her to integrate creativity with pedagogical expertise throughout her professional life.

She attributes much of her success to the experience of emigrating from South America, which broadened her perspective on helping others. Ms. Setter-San Miguel recognizes her mother as her primary source of support, providing the essential financial and emotional foundation that allowed her to pursue her ambitions. Furthermore, her husband's support during his transition out of military service was pivotal, enabling her to remain dedicated to her passion for teaching with renewed vigor.

Beyond her primary roles, Ms. Setter-San Miguel has contributed to civic initiatives as public relations representative for Fundación Bolívar Ampuero since 2013. Her dedication has been recognized through several honors, including the AATSP Conference Stipend and Rising Educator Award, as well as the AATSP Exams Rising Educator Award in 2026.

Fluent in Spanish, French and English—and currently learning German—Ms. Setter-San Miguel values multiculturalism both professionally and personally. She enjoys do-it-yourself projects, learning new languages and playing or coaching volleyball.

As a parent of two children, ages five and 17, Ms. Setter-San Miguel balances family life with professional ambition. Looking ahead, she aims to take on greater leadership responsibilities in education and serve as a mentor to fellow teachers. Her goal is not only to foster professional development but also to cultivate growth mindsets among students—empowering them with meaningful experiences that inspire positive change beyond the classroom.
