ALBUQUERQUE, NM, April 30, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Fred DeGuio has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Mr. DeGuio has established a distinguished career in aviation, marked by nearly four decades of dedicated service and significant contributions to airline operations and airport management. His expertise in aviation history, airline operations and airport management is widely recognized, reflecting a lifelong commitment to the field.

From 1979 to 2014, Mr. DeGuio served as an airport operations agent for American Airlines at Albuquerque Sunport. In this capacity, he coordinated flight operations and managed weight and balance calculations, ensuring the safe and efficient movement of aircraft. He was responsible for employee scheduling and shift coordination, ticketing and gate operations, as well as overseeing lost baggage office functions. From 2014 to 2017 he performed much of the same functions for Alaska Airlines.

Mr. DeGuio's leadership extended to supervising airport staff and personnel, opening and establishing airline service in new cities, testing and implementing new operational programs and serving on the airport advisory board. He also provided historical documentation that contributed to the preservation of local aviation heritage.

Among Mr. DeGuio's most notable achievements during his tenure with American Airlines was the successful launch of service to Roswell, New Mexico. Over two decades, he identified a clear market need for Dallas service from Roswell and championed the route despite initial resistance from both American Airlines and competing carriers. Collaborating closely with the mayor and key community leaders as well as American Airlines' senior management, Fred's efforts lead to the development of a revenue guarantee plan that mitigated financial risks for the airline.

This innovative approach ultimately persuaded American Airlines to establish the route, which proved immediately profitable and eliminated the need to activate the guarantee. Additionally, Mr. DeGuio played a pivotal role in initiating service to Santa Fe, New Mexico, which flourished and expanded to eight daily flights. After retiring from American, Fred then worked with the Director of the Farmington, New Mexico airport for several years to reestablish commercial air service to that community. These accomplishments underscore his ability to recognize market opportunities and foster collaborative solutions.

Following his retirement from American Airlines, Mr. DeGuio became the owner of Pecos Valley Aviation Consulting. In this role, he continued to share his extensive knowledge by advising on aviation projects and supporting industry initiatives.

Beyond his professional titles, Mr. DeGuio maintains an active membership in the Natural Arch and Bridge Society in Utah, where he has contributed as a volunteer guide and planner. His involvement with this organization reflects his broader interest in natural history and community engagement.

Mr. DeGuio's educational background includes coursework at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado, which provided foundational knowledge that supported his career trajectory. Additionally, he holds a Private Pilot License for single engine Cessna aircraft further demonstrating his technical proficiency in aviation.

The roots of Mr. DeGuio's passion for aviation trace back to a formative summer job with Continental Airlines after his second year at Fort Lewis College. Inspired by family tradition, he found himself drawn to the dynamic environment of airline operations. The experience solidified his decision to pursue a career in aviation rather than continue with traditional academic studies. His commitment was further reinforced by the stability offered by American Airlines and his determination to excel in every role he undertook.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Mr. DeGuio has been actively involved in civic organizations, including the Boy Scouts of America, where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout in 1974. He has served as an usher at St. John 23rd Catholic Community in Albuquerque and contributed as a board member to Cavalcade of Wings in Albuquerque, a non-profit group dedicated to preserving aviation history in New Mexico through a website and model displays at the Albuquerque Sunport. He has personally contributed 85 models to this display and nearly 200 submissions for the website.

Mr. DeGuio is also an accomplished author, having published "Albuquerque Sunport History" with Arcadia Publishing in 2019. He has also been featured and had writings published in various newspapers and magazines. This work documents the rich legacy of aviation in Albuquerque and reflects his dedication to historical preservation.

Born in Philadelphia, Mr. DeGuio enjoys hiking, photography, traveling and exploring throughout New Mexico, flying throughout the nation by way of his flight benefits on American Airlines, and embarking on road trips with his wife and dog. Looking ahead, he intends to revive and restore the Cavalcade of Wings aviation history organization to full operational capacity, continuing his lifelong mission of celebrating and preserving aviation heritage for future generations.
