ANCHORAGE, AK, May 11, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Katharine J. Fontaine, PE, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Ms. Fontaine's professional journey is marked by a commitment to team building, problem solving and leadership across the engineering and energy sectors. In 2026, she became the owner of Fontaine Consulting LLC, where she specializes in helping organizations develop their capabilities and foster effective team building. Her approach emphasizes empowering teams to collaborate, transforming both high achievers and those needing additional support into cohesive units that excel. Renowned for her ability to unite diverse groups, she is frequently sought after for her expertise in creating synergy and driving organizations toward ambitious goals.
Following her retirement in May 2025, Ms. Fontaine responded to numerous requests from organizations eager to leverage her proven track record in team development. Her reputation for cultivating high-performing teams has led many former colleagues and clients to seek her guidance in replicating similar success within their own organizations.
For the preceding six years, Ms. Fontaine served as a vice president of operations for Crowley in Alaska, a global marine and logistics company. In this capacity, she oversaw the storage, distribution and sale of fuel throughout the region. Her tenure was distinguished by her ability to manage complex logistical operations while fostering a culture of safety and operational excellence.
Prior to joining Crowley, Ms. Fontaine spent 15 years at BP, holding approximately 10 different roles that showcased her versatility and leadership acumen. As a regional performance manager, she was tasked with overseeing three production facilities with subpar safety records. Through her leadership, these facilities achieved zero incidents, improved production and significantly reduced operational costs. She also established coalitions among geographically distant teams, implemented dedicated maintenance and health, safety and environmental support structures and instituted regular communication protocols. This initiative transformed previously overlooked facilities into leaders within BP's production network—a milestone she regards as one of her most significant achievements.
Ms. Fontaine's earlier roles at BP included area operations manager, infrastructure and logistics manager, greater Kuparuk area operations and facility manager, program manager for regulatory affairs, corrective action order project manager and Trans Alaska Pipeline performance manager. Each of these positions allowed her to further hone her skills in operational management, regulatory compliance and cross-functional team leadership.
Before joining BP, Ms. Fontaine was an operations manager at Kakivik Asset Management LLC from 2004 to 2005. Her foundational experience was developed during her tenure at CH2M Hill from 1992 to 2004 as water business unit leader. In this role, she managed engineering projects across Alaska's remote regions, gaining valuable experience in project oversight and client relations while traveling extensively throughout the state.
Educationally, Ms. Fontaine's background includes earning a Master of Science in environmental engineering from the University of Alaska Anchorage after completing a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering at the same institution. Her initial academic pursuit was a Bachelor of Science in biology and secondary science education from SUNY Oneonta in New York City. She also completed coursework at the Operations Academy at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Sloan School of Management.
Furthering her expertise, Ms. Fontaine's professional credentials include a professional engineer license issued by the State of Alaska and an internal corrosion technologist certification from the National Association of Corrosion Engineers. Additionally, she holds a diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace certificate from USF Corporate Training and Professional Education, earned in 2021.
Overall, Ms. Fontaine attributes her success not only to academic achievement but also to sheer will and determination, qualities that have enabled her to learn from setbacks and persist through challenges. Early in her career as a corrosion microbiologist at the New York State Health Department's anaerobic microbiology lab, she was recruited by a professor consulting for ARCO in Alaska after demonstrating exceptional skill with laboratory samples. What began as a one-year opportunity evolved into seven years working on Alaska's North Slope as one of only five women on site at that time. Navigating this male-dominated environment inspired her to pursue further education in engineering while interning at CH2M Hill—a decision that launched her into increasingly responsible roles across multiple organizations.
Born in Lubbock, Ms. Fontaine enjoys hiking and traveling and is civically involved as the president and treasurer for the American Society of Civil Engineers and a supporter of Habitat for Humanity. She is also dedicated to supporting her daughter's journey while remaining open to new opportunities beyond traditional oil and gas roles. Looking ahead, Ms. Fontaine plans to relocate closer to family with hopes of becoming a grandmother while continuing her involvement with community initiatives, such as women's empowerment organizations led by Donna Oriander in the Portland area.
