VENTNOR CITY, NJ, May 12, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Barbara Sullivan has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Ms. Sullivan has built a distinguished career spanning more than 25 years dedicated to advancing the well-being of older adults, with a particular focus on Aging in Place and community-based support models. She is widely regarded as a national leader in the Village Movement. This innovative, grassroots approach empowers older adults to remain active, connected, and independent in their own homes and communities.
For the past eight years, Ms. Sullivan has served as executive director of the Village to Village Network, a national membership organization representing approximately 280 local Villages across the United States. Under her leadership, the network has expanded its reach and strengthened its mission of delivering nonmedical support through volunteer-driven services. Her work includes fostering collaboration among aging-focused organizations, engaging diverse stakeholders, guiding strategic planning, overseeing national conferences, mentoring developing Villages, and analyzing demographic and geographic data to inform growth and sustainability.
A hallmark of Ms. Sullivan's career has been her leadership within the Village Movement at the national level, where she has played a pivotal role in advancing models that address critical social determinants of health, including loneliness and isolation. Through her efforts, she has helped elevate the movement as a vital solution for promoting community engagement, volunteerism, and healthier aging outcomes.
Earlier in her career, Ms. Sullivan served as executive director of Mount Vernon At Home in Northern Virginia, where she led the organization for eight years following its launch. Working closely with community members, she helped establish and grow the Village into a trusted and sustainable resource for older adults seeking to age in place.
From 2001 to 2010, she served as assistant administrator at Paul Spring Retirement Community, gaining valuable experience in senior living operations. Her introduction to the field came in 2000, inspired in part by her father's work as an elder law attorney and his service as chairman of the US House of Representatives Select Committee on Aging.
Ms. Sullivan remains actively engaged in professional and civic organizations that advance aging services. She is a past president and chairman of the board of the Mount Vernon Chamber of Commerce. She holds memberships with the American Society on Aging, Leading Age, and the Leadership Council of Aging Organizations. Nationally, she serves on the board of directors of LeadingAge.
She earned a Bachelor of Science in political science and business administration from The George Washington University, Mount Vernon Campus. In addition, she has been a board-certified long-term care administrator through the National Association of Long Term Care Administrator Boards since 2004.
Throughout her career, Ms. Sullivan has been recognized for her leadership and community impact, including honors such as Fairfax County Lady Fairfax, Citizen of the Year, Mount Vernon Lee Chamber of Commerce, and the ProAging Award honoring Exceptional Professions in the Field of Aging from the Positive Aging Sourcebook.
Born in Camden County, NJ, and raised in Ocean City, New Jersey, Ms. Sullivan is the proud mother of three sons who have pursued careers in law and education. She and her late husband, Barry, enjoyed traveling, raising a loving family, and taking on new adventures. Looking ahead, she remains committed to expanding the Village Movement nationwide to ensure that every community has access to the resources and support needed to help older adults thrive as they age in place.
