JACKSON, OH, May 19, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Millie Miller Arnold has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Ms. Arnold has established a distinguished career defined by her unwavering commitment to nonprofit management and advocacy, particularly in the fight against amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or ALS. Since 2024 she has held the title of trustee emeritus with The ALS Association, where she continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the organization's direction. In this capacity, she attends board meetings for the national association, participates in the hiring of the chief executive officer and provides guidance on initiatives that benefit individuals living with ALS. Her responsibilities also include periodic conference calls and attending at least three in-person meetings annually in various cities across the United States.
Ms. Arnold's tenure on the board of directors for The ALS Association spanned nine years before her emeritus appointment. During this period, she was instrumental in strategic decision-making and governance, ensuring that the association remained focused on its mission to support those affected by ALS. Her involvement with The ALS Association began in 1998, marking nearly three decades of dedicated service. Among her most notable achievements is the establishment of the first Walk to Defeat ALS in Dayton, Ohio, in 2005. Under her leadership, this event grew from raising over $20,000 in its inaugural year to generating approximately $150,000 annually, becoming a cornerstone fundraiser for the organization.
Before dedicating herself to nonprofit work, Ms. Arnold built a robust background in medical management. She served as office manager at Dr. Sue Bulen's practice in Tucson, Arizona, for three years, where she oversaw daily operations and contributed to patient care coordination. She then managed the office of the Medical Director at Northwest Rehab Center for one year. Her earlier experience includes a twelve-year tenure as office manager at Professional Medical Management in Tucson, where her responsibilities encompassed securing state licenses and approvals from relevant agencies and hospitals, arranging office space rentals and staffing—effectively providing a turnkey operation that allowed doctors to begin their practices seamlessly upon arrival.
Prior to her work in medical management, Ms. Arnold contributed to education as department head and vocational home economics teacher at Lancaster High School in Lancaster, Ohio. She also taught vocational home economics at Houston High School in Ohio.
Academically, Ms. Arnold's journey began after graduating from high school in 1959. Due to financial constraints, she worked for two years before enrolling at Marshall University for coursework in secondary education and teaching. At that time, two years of college sufficed for a teaching position; she began teaching while continuing her studies each summer. After 10 years of perseverance, she earned a Bachelor of Science in secondary education and teaching from Miami University in 1971. Overall, she attributes much of her success to her parents' emphasis on education despite their limited formal schooling; their nightly lessons and insistence on academic diligence were instrumental influences throughout her life.
Ms. Arnold has also furthered her expertise through her memberships with the Literary Club and the Legacy Society of The ALS Association. Her achievements have been recognized with several honors, including Honorary Future Farmers of America, Future Homemakers of America and State Homemaker in Ohio, and admission with honors to Marshall University in Huntington, W Va.
Her civic engagement extends beyond her professional roles to serving as a volunteer board member for The ALS Association Central and Southern Ohio Chapter from 2003 to 2014. She also enjoys gardening and oil painting during her personal time.
A three-time cancer survivor, Ms. Arnold has demonstrated remarkable resilience throughout her life and career. Her dedication to ALS advocacy is deeply personal, rooted in the loss of her husband to the disease. She honors his memory through her continued commitment to supporting the association and advancing its mission. As part of this legacy, she established a trust funded by her husband's life insurance, with proceeds designated for the organization upon her passing.
Ms. Arnold's husband, Donald Arnold, built a long career with General Electric after relocating from Ohio to Arizona in 1965. He remained with the company until his ALS diagnosis forced him to leave his position; in recognition of his service, the company granted him retirement status, ensuring Ms. Arnold could retain insurance coverage.
Ms. Arnold is committed to raising awareness of ALS as a fatal disease with a typical life expectancy of three to five years, though many individuals survive less than one year after diagnosis. While advancements have improved diagnosis rates, the disease is increasingly affecting younger populations. Her primary goal remains finding a definitive test and effective treatments for ALS—and ultimately a cure—within her lifetime.
