From 2022 to 2024, Mr. Schindler served as the team lead for air, unmanned aerial systems, and counter-UAS initiatives while working for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI). In this role, he oversaw teams that integrated new technologies and strategies to address evolving threats posed by both piloted and unpiloted adversary aircraft. His expertise in adversary air systems—particularly those used by Russia, China and Iran—has been widely recognized. While at ODNI he led a cross-agency group that produced the U.S. government's first Counter Small-Unmanned Aerial Systems Policy, ensuring safety and security procedures across the nation.

Between 2019 and 2022, Mr. Schindler worked as a senior advanced conventional weapons subject matter expert at Booz Allen Hamilton. During this period, he continued supporting government operations by providing technical guidance on advanced weaponry and threat analysis. Prior to this, he served as a lead technical collections specialist at Maxar Technologies from 2018 to 2019, where he managed intelligence-collection efforts focused on emerging global threats.

In 2017, Mr. Schindler served as a senior intelligence analyst for Pacific Command Flight with the United States Air Force, contributing to regional security assessments and operational planning. From 2015 to 2017, he was a senior intelligence analyst in the Integrated Air Defense Systems Branch, where he analyzed complex air defense networks and provided actionable insights for mission planning. His efforts directly supported operational plans for military forces in Europe and the Pacific.

As chief of current assessments from 2014 to 2015, Mr. Schindler led evaluations of ongoing operations to ensure mission effectiveness. His team built Daily Intelligence Summaries that reached over 400 units daily, advising them of developing adversary tactics and systems. From 2007 to 2014, he was a senior air analyst at Air Combat Command at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia—a period during which he developed deep expertise in adversary aircraft and became one of the leading subject-matter experts on how foreign powers employ these assets in warfare. His advisory role on advanced technologies that could threaten U.S. air dominance is among his most significant professional achievements.

In addition to these roles, Mr. Schindler served as a senior analyst and deputy J2 (GG-14) for CJTF-Paladin in 2013, and as an intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance liaison officer (ISRLO) for Regional Command North in Afghanistan from 2010 to 2011. From 2004 to 2010, he held a civilian position with the United States Air Force after retiring from active duty. Mr. Schindler was the first ISRLO sent to Regional Command North and the first civilian in the ISRLO program.

Mr. Schindler's military career began in 1984 when he enlisted in the United States Air Force after graduating from Greenwood Community High School in Indiana in 1983. Inspired by a friend's positive experience in the service, he became a linguist. He attended language school in Monterey, California, excelling as a top student in both Arabic and Polish classes. He also earned a nomination for the Commandant's trophy during his training. Throughout his two decades of active duty—including service during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm—he worked on the EC-130H electronic warfare aircraft. He completed rigorous language programs equivalent to several years of college-level study.

His professional journey is further distinguished by membership in organizations such as the Masonic Lodge and recognition through numerous awards: Civilian of the Year at Air Combat Command (Afghanistan), nominee for the Commandant's Award, Outstanding Non-Commissioned Officer Award, winner of the John Levitow Award, as well as multiple aerial achievement medals, air medals and four commendation medals.

Mr. Schindler's academic background has played a pivotal role in his success. He earned a Master of Business Administration in management from William & Mary's Raymond A. Mason School of Business in Williamsburg, Virginia, in 2017 after completing a Bachelor of Arts degree in intelligence analysis from American Military University in Charles Town, West Virginia, in 2013. He also holds a bachelor's degree in military intelligence from American Military University (2010) and a diploma from Greenwood Community High School (1983). The discipline instilled by his rural upbringing—where his parents' work ethic set an enduring example—prepared him for challenges throughout his career.

He credits much of his professional growth to influential mentors such as Mr. Brian Fishpaugh—a renowned senior executive service civilian—and Lieutenant General Dash Jamieson (United States Air Force retired), both of whom exemplified leadership grounded in genuine care for people and mission success.

Beyond his professional responsibilities, Mr. Schindler has been civically engaged as an Appalachian Trail maintainer with the Tidewater Appalachian Trail Club since 2009. His dedication to community service reflects his lifelong commitment to selfless service, a value that first resonated with him during his early years with the Air Force.

Born in Indianapolis, Mr. Schindler enjoys reading, gardening, planting wildflowers, watching hockey, exploring culinary interests and traveling with his wife. He remains focused on continuous learning and is currently working on projects that leverage artificial intelligence to streamline readiness data analysis within the military—reducing assessment times dramatically and enabling proactive responses to emerging challenges. His ongoing goal is to incorporate new technologies, such as artificial intelligence and machine learning, into military operations so that the Air Force can move from reactive measures to predictive preparedness.
