Ms. Mays has dedicated more than three decades to advancing the field of corneal transplantation, establishing herself as a leading expert in the discipline. As the Chief Executive Officer of The Cincinnati Eye Bank, she has overseen every aspect of the corneal transplant process, from tissue recovery and quality assurance to transplantation. Her responsibilities include, maintaining rigorous standards for tissue quality and collaborating closely with the technical director, quality director and processing coordinators.

Prior to her current role, Ms. Mays served as the Technical Director, Associate Director, Operations Director, then Executive Director before becoming Chief Executive Officer. Her years at The Cincinnati Eye Bank go from 1994 to the present. In this capacity, she played a pivotal role in expanding the organization's capabilities and adapting to significant advancements in eye banking. When she began her career, only penetrating keratoplasty was performed. Over time, she witnessed and contributed to the evolution of numerous new procedures that have enabled recipients to regain their sight more quickly and effectively. Her leadership has been instrumental in supporting over 20,000 individuals in receiving or restoring their vision while providing comfort to the donor families.

She believes that having a dedicated and caring staff is essential to achieving organizational goals and delivering exceptional outcomes for both recipients and donor families.
Ms. Mays' passion for eye banking was ignited early in her career at The Cincinnati Eye Bank when a young boy regained his eyesight through transplantation and expressed heartfelt gratitude for being able to see his dog again. This moment resonated deeply with Ms. Mays as a fellow dog lover and the thought of not being able to see those we love. This laid the groundwork for her commitment to supporting corneal recipients, donor families, and local surgeons through the Eye Bank.
Beyond her professional responsibilities, Ms. Mays is civically engaged as the chair of the Second Chance Trust Fund at the Ohio Department of Health since 2023, and as a member of the Donate Life Ohio committee.
