LAWRENCE, NY, May 21, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- David X Martin has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Martin currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Arctium Capital Management, a role he has held since 2023. In this capacity, he leads the firm's approach to capital management, focusing on uncorrelated alpha strategies designed to improve portfolio behavior during periods of market stress and changing correlation regimes. Under Mr. Martin's leadership, Arctium Capital Management manages a concentrated portfolio of specialized investment managers selected for independent return drivers, portfolio fit, and differentiated behavior across changing market environments. The firm's investment philosophy reflects Mr. Martin's long-standing focus on risk management, underlying strategy behavior, and active portfolio oversight rather than diversification based primarily on traditional asset allocation frameworks. His partnership with Enrico Dallavecchia, a fellow former Chief Risk Officer, has further shaped the firm's investment approach, execution, and strategic direction.
Arctium Capital Management was founded in response to the view that traditional diversification can become less effective during periods of market stress, particularly when historically distinct asset classes begin to move together. The firm focuses on constructing portfolios intended to provide differentiated return behavior through specialized investment managers and active risk oversight. Drawing on decades of experience in enterprise risk management, the founders built the firm around the view that portfolio resilience depends less on asset allocation labels and more on how underlying return drivers and investment strategies behave during periods of stress, volatility, and market dislocation."
In addition to his responsibilities at Arctium Capital Management, Mr. Martin is an expert witness through David X Martin in the New York City metropolitan area, a position he has held since 2016. He provides specialized testimony and consulting services on complex financial and risk management matters. Since 2013, Mr. Martin has also served as a special counselor at the Center for Financial Stability, an independent think tank in New York City, contributing thought leadership on systemic risk and regulatory policy.
From 2015 to 2024, Mr. Martin was the founder and managing partner of David X Martin LLC in New York City, a management consulting firm specializing in cyber risk management, where he offered advisory services to senior management and boards of financial services firms and central banks. His expertise was sought by organizations such as BlackRock and the U.S. Department of State's Sanctions Subcommittee, where he served as an advisory committee member between 2012 and 2022. During this period, Mr. Martin also contributed as a senior advisory board member at Oliver Wyman from 2012 to 2014.
Mr. Martin's tenure at AllianceBernstein L.P. marked a significant chapter in his career. From 2001 to 2009, he was the chief risk officer and senior vice president, guiding the firm through periods of regulatory scrutiny and industry transformation. He later served as a senior vice president and director of government relations until 2011, where his mentorship was instrumental, resulting in four of his direct reports advancing to chief risk officer roles at other firms.
Before working for AllianceBernstein, Mr. Martin was the Director and Head of the New York office at DFD Select Group from 2000 to 2001 and Chief Executive Officer and Chair at Knightsbridge Capital Management between 1999 and 2000. At Citi, he held several key positions, including Enterprise Risk Manager from 1990 to 1998 and Managing Director until 1999. Mr. Martin's pioneering work at Citicorp included establishing the first enterprise risk function and developing the Windows on Risk system, a milestone that established him as Head of Enterprise Risk for all of Citicorp.
Mr. Martin began at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), where he transitioned from accounting to information technology and operational consulting. There, he contributed to high-profile litigation support projects, such as financial analysis for the U.S. Department of Justice's case against IBM.
Mr. Martin's academic contributions are equally distinguished. Since 2011, he has served as an adjunct professor at the Leonard N. Stern School of Business at New York University. He also teaches at the Gabelli School of Business at Fordham University. Furthermore, within the Directors and Chief Risk Officers Forum (DCRO), Mr. Martin co-chairs groups focused on cybersecurity risk principles and teaches a cohort at Harvard University.
Mr. Martin's educational journey began after a formative experience owning a restaurant at age 16 that burned down, an experience that ultimately led him toward higher education and a career in finance and risk management. He attended Staten Island Community College for one year before transferring to Baruch College in New York City, where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting in two years. Mr. Martin then completed a Master of Business Administration in corporate finance at the Graduate School of Business at New York University. In addition to his formal education, he holds several professional designations, including credentials as a certified public accountant, with Series 7, Series 24, Series 63 and Series 65 licenses from the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, and registration as an investment adviser with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
In addition to his extensive education, Mr. Martin's professional affiliations include membership in the Directors and Chief Risk Officers Forum. Among other involvements, he was the founding chair of the risk committee for the Investment Company Institute and is the former co-chair of the Buy Side Risk Managers Forum and the Cyber Risk Governance Council. Meanwhile, Mr. Martin's civic engagement includes donating landscaping work for a five-and-a-half-acre property, a project reflecting his passion for nature, and mentoring emerging professionals across finance and risk management fields.
As an author, Mr. Martin has published several influential works, including "Risk and the Smart Investor," published by McGraw-Hill Education in 2010, and "The Nature of Risk" published through CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform in 2012, which received Best Book of the Year recognition from the Global Association of Risk Professionals. He also published numerous papers on risk management topics for industry forums.
Mr. Martin attributes his success to formative experiences growing up in a New York City housing project, drawing inspiration from his father's courage as a decorated war hero who served under General Patton. His early experience as an Eagle Scout fighting forest fires also profoundly shaped his perspective on risk management.
Looking ahead, Mr. Martin aims to create a billion-dollar multi-manager investment platform dedicated to helping investors navigate periods of market instability, a model designed with an aging population's financial security needs in mind. Through ongoing writing and speaking engagements, he seeks to establish enduring frameworks for financial stability that will serve future generations beyond his own direct efforts.
