A pivotal chapter in Ms. Floret's career began as a contributing photographer for People magazine in New York City from 1976 to 1996; and she was officially added to the magazine's masthead in 1979. During these 20 years, she produced compelling photojournalistic work that captured the essence of human experience. Her first journalistic assignment, documenting ABC newsman John Johnson, was completed as part of Howard Chapnick's photojournalism course in 1976. It culminated in a solo exhibition at Benton and Bowles Advertising Agency. This assignment led to her affiliation with Black Star and her introduction to John Dominis, who was the picture editor at People Magazine until 1978.
Earlier in her professional journey, Ms. Floret first taught French in St. Louis at Ladue High School and then served as acting director for the French ten-year sequence in the Clayton School District applying her skills to serve students and lead their department's curriculum.
Ms. Floret's educational background laid a strong foundation for her multifaceted career. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in French language and literature from Washington University in St. Louis in 1961. Ms. Floret's academic pursuits continued with a three-year certificate in sculpture from the National Academy School of Fine Arts in New York City and a Missouri French teaching certificate from Washington University at St. Louis, with specialization in teaching French as a second or foreign language.
Having maintained active membership in several esteemed organizations, Ms. Floret is an honorary member and president emerita of Audubon Artists Inc. She is also an elected member of the Allied Artists of America and the Society of North American Goldsmiths, holds a life membership with the American Society of Media Photographers, and is affiliated with the National Sculpture Society, and an honorary member of the Salmagundi Club. Throughout her career, Ms. Floret has also demonstrated an unwavering commitment to civic engagement and artistic advancement. Since 2010, she has volunteered with local charities while actively supporting young artists by underwriting members of Audubon Artists.
Among numerous projects, she presented a lecture on photography at the Parsons School of Design and on digital media promotion at the National Academy of Fine Arts, as well as a presentation on French sculptors. Ms. Floret's creative output has also included numerous exhibitions at prestigious venues, including the Allied Artists of America annual exhibitions between 1999 and 2024 and the Audubon Artists annual exhibitions from 2003 to 2024. She has also exhibited her work at the Cork Gallery, the National Arts Club, the Hubert Gallery, the International Center of Photography, and the United Nations.
As an author, Ms. Floret is preparing to publish "People: Seen and Felt – 20 Years Behind the Lens and Beyond" by Evelyn Floret with Hemlock Printers in Canada. This comprehensive volume spans over five hundred pages, developed over two-and-a-half years, featuring an autobiographical introduction about her family's escape from France during World War II, extensive selections from her People magazine portfolio, detailed sections on sculpture, and spreads that highlight paintings, drawings, and jewelry design.
Ms. Floret's accolades include the a Gold Medal of Honor for Sculpture at Audubon Artists' 61st Annual Exhibition in 2003, a Silver Medal of Honor for Sculpture at Audubon Artists' 67th Annual Exhibition in 2009, The Gilbert and Marion Roller Sculpture Award at Allied Artists of America's 106th Annual Exhibition in 2019, and, among others, an Audubon Artist Award in 2024.
