BOSTON, MA, June 10, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jonathan D. Hron, MD, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Marked by a series of progressive leadership roles over the course of nearly 20 years at Boston Children's Hospital, Dr. Hron has led a distinguished career in pediatric medicine and clinical informatics. Since 2020, he has served as the facility's associate chief medical information officer, demonstrating his longstanding expertise in designing, implementing and evaluating health information technology at the point of care. His work in this capacity has contributed to the advancement of digital solutions that enhance both patient safety and clinical efficiency.
In addition to his current responsibilities, Dr. Hron has held the position of physician lead for inpatient informatics at Boston Children's Hospital since 2018. In this role, he has overseen the integration of informatics into inpatient care, helping to align technological innovations with clinical needs and improve outcomes for pediatric patients.
Since 2015, Dr. Hron has also been a program director for the clinical informatics fellowship at Boston Children's Hospital. Though his tenure counts many milestones, he is especially proud of his pioneering work in this area, where he was among the first to help establish accredited fellowship programs in the United States. As immediate past chair of the program directors group at the American Medical Informatics Association — and having served as chair, chair-elect and secretary over the past 12 years — he has been instrumental in supporting the growth of more than 60 fellowship programs across the country. He also played a key role in creating and supporting a fair and transparent match process that connects applicants with programs, launching the careers of many fellowship graduates.
Dr. Hron has concurrently served as a pediatric hospitalist at Boston Children's Hospital since 2012, providing direct patient care while contributing to hospital-wide initiatives that aim to improve pediatric health services and clinical documentation. From 2012 to 2018, he was the medical informatics lead for communication and education, where he developed strategies to enhance communication among healthcare teams and advanced educational efforts related to informatics.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Hron was chief resident at Boston Children's Hospital from 2011 to 2012, demonstrating his leadership acumen and commitment to medical education. He began his post-graduate training as a resident physician at both Boston Children's Hospital and Boston Medical Center from 2008 to 2011.
Also contributing his knowledge and experience to the academic realm, Dr. Hron has held a faculty appointment at Harvard Medical School since 2011, and was promoted to Assistant Professor in 2021. Through this role, he continues to contribute to the education and mentorship of future physicians while advancing research in pediatric medicine and informatics.
Hailing from an equally accomplished educational background of his own, Dr. Hron earned a Doctor of Medicine from The University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine in 2008 as well as a Bachelor of Applied Science in biology from Washington University in St. Louis in 2004. To augment his knowledge and qualifications, he was board-certified in pediatric hospital medicine by the American Academy of Pediatrics in 2019 and has been recognized as a clinical informatics diplomate by the American Board of Preventive Medicine since 2015.
Reflecting on his storied journey to date, Dr. Hron attributes his accomplishments to the unwavering support and guidance he has received from family members and mentors alike throughout his education and career. Their encouragement helped him discover opportunities within medical informatics — a field previously unknown to him when he first entered medical school — and inspired his ongoing dedication to innovation in healthcare.
Alongside his primary roles, Dr. Hron has been recognized as a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics since 2011 and holds memberships with the American Medical Informatics Association and the American Board of Preventive Medicine. During his time at University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, he was involved with the admissions committee and was an active member of the Gold Humanism Honor Society.
Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. Hron has extended his influence into research and scholarship. He has co-authored over 40 journal articles, mostly on the implementation and evaluation of clinical informatics tools and training. He authored "Electronic medication reconciliation and medication errors," which was published in the International Journal for Quality in Health Care in 2015 and addressed critical issues related to patient safety and medication management. More recently, he served as senior or co-senior author on a series of studies demonstrating the risks and benefits of using artificial intelligence for translation of pediatric patient instructions, including "Evaluating a large language model in translating patient instructions to Spanish using a standardized framework" published in JAMA Pediatrics in 2025.
Happily married and a proud father of two children, Dr. Hron enjoys hiking, SCUBA diving and traveling with his family as a balance to his professional responsibilities. Looking toward the future with optimism, he remains focused on advancing artificial intelligence applications that can be safely integrated within pediatrics to further improve patient care outcomes. His life and career reflect a steadfast commitment to innovation, mentorship and service within pediatric medicine and medical informatics, establishing him as a leader whose influence continues to shape healthcare delivery nationwide.
