She began working at UnityPoint Health as a certified nursing assistant in 2007—and now she has achieved her childhood dream—to be a psychiatric nurse.

Ms. Hellrung's journey into health care began with her initial employment in housekeeping at a hospital in Milwaukee. Encouraged by her father, who recognized her innate ability to help others, she transitioned into direct patient care when the hospital sponsored her to become a certified nursing assistant. This pivotal experience laid the foundation for her subsequent achievements in nursing.

Her academic credentials include an associate's degree earned in 2023. The knowledge and skills acquired during her studies have been instrumental in shaping her clinical practice and advancing her career. Ms. Hellrung holds several professional certifications: she became a licensed practical nurse in 2020, subsequently earned registered nurse certification, and is also a certified nursing assistant. Each credential has expanded her scope of practice and deepened her understanding of patient care. Her journey from housekeeper, to CNA, to LPN, and finally to RN proves that it doesn't matter where you begin. What matters is not giving up and achieving the goals you put in place in the end with purpose. All for the greater good.

Beyond her professional commitments, Ms. Hellrung has demonstrated a strong dedication to community service through volunteer work with the Milwaukee Rescue Mission. Her involvement reflects a broader commitment to civic engagement and supporting vulnerable populations.

Ms. Hellrung attributes much of her success to the guidance and example set by her mother, whose influence instilled in her a sense of willpower, compassion and purpose. She is also motivated by her children, striving to serve as a positive role model and empower others through both personal and professional interactions.

As a child, Ms. Hellrung was misdiagnosed and dealt with difficult situations, including mental health medication issues. She feels that, in life, the struggles that you endure are a big part of one's success. She hopes that sharing her story she will help other people, encourage other people. She also feels that it is something that she doesn't want to hide anymore. "What has happened to us made us who we are and it helps us help people better. You can make a conscious choice intentionally to try and keep trying and work towards something better, to become your best self, to achieve who you want to be," she concluded.

In addition to her career and volunteerism, Ms. Hellrung enjoys running as a personal pursuit. She is the parent of four children, including twin sons born in 2011.
