Mr. Weeden has established a distinguished career in biomedical engineering and healthcare technology, marked by nearly two decades of progressive responsibility and technical expertise. Since 2023, he has served as a biomedical equipment support specialist at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, where he is responsible for the installation, troubleshooting, repair, calibration and preventive maintenance of medical devices across multiple sites in southern Colorado. Mr. Weeden's work encompasses five counties, including oversight of clinics in Pueblo and the Community Living Center, a nursing home and mental health facility dedicated to veterans.
From 2021 to 2023, Mr. Weeden held the position of director of biomed at Parkview Medical Center, now part of UCHealth, a leading community health organization, in Colorado. This promotion came after serving as a biomedical technician operations manager earlier in 2021. Between 2018 and 2021, Mr. Weeden worked as a systems analyst associate for ancillary applications at UCHealth. In this capacity, he focused on device integration and information technology solutions that ensured seamless transfer of medical data from devices into electronic medical records. His efforts contributed to improved clinical workflows and patient care outcomes.
Mr. Weeden's tenure as a biomedical technician at UCHealth from 2014 to 2018 included demonstrating skills in equipment maintenance and troubleshooting. Prior to this, he was employed as a biomedical equipment technician at Crystal Run Health, a medical practice serving New York state's Hudson Valley and lower Catskill region, where he spent five years supporting the reliability and safety of critical medical devices, beginning in 2009.
Before his civilian work, Mr. Weeden served in the U.S. military, which provided the foundation for his technical acumen and leadership abilities. From 1998 to 2007, he served on active duty, specializing in electronic warfare in the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Weeden then spent 2008 to 2013 as a biomedical equipment technician non-commissioned officer in charge with the New York Air National Guard, where he managed maintenance operations for advanced medical technologies.
Mr. Weeden's educational background includes an Associate of Applied Science in avionics technology, awarded in 2009, and an Associate of Applied Science in applied biomedical equipment technology, completed in 2010, both acquired at the Community College of the Air Force. He also obtained a bachelor's degree in professional studies in technology management from Excelsior University in Albany, New York, in 2016.
In addition to his formal education, Mr. Weeden pursued ongoing professional development through numerous certifications, such as the certified biomedical equipment technician credential from the AAMI Certification Institute of the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation. He also completed project management coursework through Coursera Inc., covering foundations of project management, project initiation, planning and execution, as well as agile project management and capstone application projects. Furthermore, Mr. Weeden completed the Learn SQL Course through Codecademy.
Mr. Weeden is active in his professional community. He is currently a member of the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation and the Colorado Association of Biomedical Equipment Technicians. These affiliations allow him to remain at the forefront of his industry and network with like-minded individuals.
Throughout his career, Mr. Weeden has developed expertise in device integration, content management systems, Nuvolo software, sterilization repair and equipment, as well as general guidance on newer biomedical technologies. Lauded for his expertise, he was recognized as the Tech Nation Biomed of the Month in 2011 and authored an article for AAMI's Biomedical Instrumentation & Technology Journal. These contributions are a testament to his knowledge within the field.
Mr. Weeden's commitment to excellence was exemplified during a critical incident at Christmastime while employed at UCHealth Memorial Hospital when he repaired a hyperbaric oxygen unit with a specialized EKG cable. His timely intervention enabled life-saving treatment for a young patient exposed to carbon monoxide, earning heartfelt gratitude from clinical staff. He attributes much of his success to his genuine interest in his field and emphasizes the importance of building relationships not only within biomed but also with clinical staff, supply chain professionals and other team members whose knowledge often goes unrecognized.
Looking ahead, Mr. Weeden is preparing to take the Network+ examination to further expand his technical credentials. His career thus far reflects dedication to advancing healthcare technology while fostering collaborative networks that enhance patient care across diverse settings.
