PLEASANTON, CA, June 18, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Kate M. O'Dell, PharmD, BCPS, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. O'Dell has established a distinguished career in pharmacy education and practice, marked by more than two decades of dedicated service and leadership. Since 2015, she has served as a tenured professor at the University of the Pacific's Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy, where she is recognized for her expertise in teaching, scholarship and research, as well as her commitment to service within the university, the school of pharmacy and professional organizations at local, state and national levels. In this capacity, Dr. O'Dell teaches courses on non-prescription therapies and self-care, oversees introductory pharmacy practice experiences in hospital settings and offers elective courses covering top drugs and homeopathic medicines. Her efforts have cultivated a comprehensive educational environment for students pursuing careers in pharmacy.

In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Dr. O'Dell serves as director of the Summer High School Institute Future Pharmacists Program at the University of the Pacific. The dean selected her to lead this inaugural initiative, which required her to design the curriculum, develop the budget, and coordinate logistics for a two-week immersive experience for high school students. This innovative program not only introduces participants to healthcare and pharmacy but also serves as a strategic recruitment tool for prospective pharmacy students.

From 2010 to 2015, Dr. O'Dell was an associate professor at the Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy, following her faculty appointment as an assistant professor from 2004 to 2010. During these years, she contributed significantly to teaching, student mentorship and academic research while furthering both her own scholarship and the advancement of the school's programs.

Before her academic career, Dr. O'Dell worked at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit as a clinical pharmacist specialist from 2001 to 2004. In this role, she provided direct patient care and collaborated with interdisciplinary teams to optimize pharmacotherapy outcomes. Her earlier experience includes completing a pharmaceutical outcomes research fellowship at Henry Ford Hospital from 1999 to 2001, where she developed expertise in evaluating medication use and health system processes.

Dr. O'Dell's professional affiliations reflect her commitment to advancing pharmacy practice. She is an active member of the California Society of Health-System Pharmacists (CSHP), where she was elected to serve as former president and current treasurer for CSHP-Central Valley. Her contributions have been recognized through several honors, including her 2017 election as a Fellow of CSHP—a testament to her sustained involvement and leadership within the organization.

Her academic foundation began at the University of Michigan College of Literature, Science, and the Arts from 1993 to 1995 before entering the Doctor of Pharmacy program at the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy, where she earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 1999. This rigorous training provided Dr. O'Dell with a strong scientific background and clinical acumen that have underpinned her subsequent achievements in both clinical practice and academia.

Dr. O'Dell is board-certified in pharmacotherapy, having earned this credential in 2001. She has maintained certification through four recertification cycles, demonstrating ongoing commitment to professional development and excellence in patient care.

Throughout her career, Dr. O'Dell has received numerous accolades recognizing her impact as an educator and practitioner. These include being named Preceptor of the Year at Henry Ford Hospital in 2003, Regional Coordinator of the Year in 2013 and multiple awards at the University of the Pacific. She has also been awarded grants to support innovative educational initiatives, such as the Summer High School Institute.

Dr. O'Dell attributes her success to the unwavering support of her family—particularly her parents, along with her husband, who helped raise their two children—and to collaborative relationships with colleagues at the university that have enriched her work in academia. Her initial interest in pharmacy was inspired by family members who were pharmacists; their guidance during her career exploration led her to pursue advanced studies at the University of Michigan.

Outside her professional life, Dr. O'Dell enjoys gardening, traveling and spending time with family. As an immigrant from Vietnam who arrived in the United States at age ten and the youngest of four children, she values diligence, resilience, and community support. These qualities continue to shape her personal journey.

Looking ahead, Dr. O'Dell remains committed to teaching at the School of Pharmacy while mentoring future pharmacists—both current students and those aspiring from high school—to become competent, compassionate, and ethical professionals equipped for success in healthcare careers.
