LOS ANGELES, CA, June 19, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dolores Cantu has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Ms. Cantu's diverse professional journey of more than 55 years is distinguished by her pioneering spirit and unwavering commitment to uplifting others. Since 2001, she has served as the owner of Candu Management, a talent agency she founded with the mission of transforming lives, particularly those of young children who had previously lacked opportunities to succeed in the entertainment industry and beyond. Through her leadership, Candu Management has guided numerous individuals to success, including a young girl who, after being discovered in Hawaii and initially struggling to secure auditions, ultimately achieved her dream role as Little Inez in the acclaimed Broadway musical "Hairspray."
Lockwood Elementary has been especially impactful, allowing her to help students — many of whom were like her in the first grade that spoke little or no English — flourish into high-achieving scholars and college graduates. She considers witnessing the growth and accomplishments of these children and the school among her most significant achievements.
Prior to establishing Candu Management, Ms. Cantu excelled as the owner of Flowers By Dolores from 1983 to 2001. She was the first female grocery store florist to operate a flower shop situated in a parking lot on the corner of Fairfax and Sunset in Hollywood. She redefined industry standards and built a clientele that included prominent figures from the entertainment industry. Her entrepreneurial approach enabled her to introduce her services directly on Los Angeles local networks, becoming "Dolores the Florist" the first TV florist appearing on "The Jim J and Tammy Faye Show" cementing her reputation as an innovator.
In 1970 Ms. Cantu became the first Mexican American Stewardess for Eastern Airline also becoming the ambassador for new routes. She also appeared in the first commercial for Eastern Airlines in 1971. Dolores' biggest honor was to be named Miss Hospitality for the Miss USA and Miss Universe Pageant representing the airlines. In this role, she was discovered and her dreams of Hollywood were in her future. Entrusted with significant responsibilities at just 20 years old, her tenure at Eastern Airlines provided invaluable experience in public speaking, promotion and travel across the United States, shaping her into an effective leader and advocate for change.
Hailing from an acting career marked by groundbreaking achievements, Ms. Cantu is recognized as the first and only woman to have a physical confrontation with John Travolta in "Saturday Night Fever," exemplifying her trailblazing presence in Hollywood. She also played a pivotal role in the formation of Nosotros, an organization dedicated to advancing opportunities for Latino actors in the entertainment industry. Collaborating with Norman Lear, she helped create showcases that provided Latino actors with vital platforms, leading to significant roles such as her own appearance on the acclaimed American sitcom "Diff'rent Strokes" also appearing in "Dallas," "Fantasy Island," "Benson" and "The Renegade" with Patrick Swayze to name a few.
In the early 80's she took acting classes alongside future icons like George Clooney and Grant Heslov, which coincided with the inception of demo reels — tools that revolutionized how actors presented their work.
Alongside her primary roles, Ms. Cantu is an active member and volunteer with the Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce and has been affiliated with the Screen Actors Guild for 55 years and board member of CFB FOUNDATION as Community Liaison Officer. Her pioneering contributions over the years saw her recognized with a 2025 spotlight feature in Voyage LA Magazine, in which she discussed her life and career, overcoming early adversity and the impact she has made on the lives of countless individuals.
Ms. Cantu's educational journey began under challenging circumstances in Refugio, Texas during the 1940s and 1950s when Mexican American families often faced language barriers and limited access to education beyond elementary school. As a first grader unable to speak English, she was part of the first class from Refugio that was not required to be bussed — a milestone reflecting broader and more inclusive social changes. Upon relocating to West Orange in the 60's she continued to encounter challenges but remained determined to succeed academically and personally.
Transitioning from an all-Hispanic school to an all-Caucasian institution during her high school years presented additional issues; however, Ms. Cantu persevered by securing employment at The Strand Theater where she sold popcorn and candy. This experience exposed her to cinema and inspired her dreams of Hollywood while teaching her valuable business lessons that would inform her future endeavors.
Reflecting on her storied journey to date, Ms. Cantu attributes her success not only to these formative experiences but also to her strong faith in God and relentless tenacity. She is equally grateful for the lasting impact of several key figures in her life — most notably her mother Esperanza Jaime, who despite only completing fifth grade in school, was a constant source of love, and encouragement; she became her first Publicist. Additionally, her agents Susan Nathe and Mariam Baum as well as producers Kirk Knutson and Richard Ayoub played key roles in helping her navigate the many challenges of the entertainment industry. Jerry Valasco, the President of Nuestro's, helped her produce her first talent showcase. Also Bob Lardin from the New York Daily News who discovered her in the Miss USA Pageant in 1972. Dick Donofrio, the scheduler for Eastern Airlines, Alan Carlos Hernandez, her first interviewer for Herald de Paris et Cie, and Christina Perez, her niece and biggest cheerleader.
Beyond her professional pursuits, Ms. Cantu is known for her civic engagement as president of Friends of Lockwood — a nonprofit entity devoted to improving the lives of students at Lockwood Avenue Elementary — for 25 years. Her outstanding dedication has been recognized through several honors including the CXO2 Leadership Award in 2026, the President's Call to Service Award in 2009, the Miss Hospitality Award at the Miss USA Pageant in 1972, the Life Time Achievement Award Boomtown Film & Music Festival 2024, Refugio, Texas key to the city and Proclamation 2024, Orange, Texas 2009 and West Orange City Proclamation 2014, West Orange High School Citizenship Award 1968.
In her personal life, Ms. Cantu enjoys spending time with her friends, participating in charity events, traveling for industry events and networking over lunch with new contacts. Looking toward the future, she aims to establish herself as a content creator and grow her personal brand by expanding her presence online while continuing to share her knowledge and support future generations as a brand ambassador and influencer.
Throughout every chapter of her life, from overcoming adversity in her childhood to breaking new ground across multiple industries, Ms. Cantu has exemplified a legacy of resilience, innovation and an enduring commitment to creating opportunities for others to pursue their own dreams.
Dolores Cantu brings more than five decades of experience across acting, talent management and a longstanding devotion to empowering young people to her work at Candu Management.
