GEORGETOWN, TX, June 19, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Gail W. McAdoo has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Ms. McAdoo served as Director of Occupational Therapy in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Temple University Health System, Inc., a role she held for three years. In this capacity, she supervised a multidisciplinary team of nine professionals, including an orthotic technician, four Registered Occupational Therapists, two Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants, and an OT Educational Supervisor. Her leadership was instrumental in advancing patient care and fostering collaboration among staff. Ms. McAdoo preferred patient care to administrative duties and was able to schedule outpatients around her meetings. Working with the plastic surgeons, she developed an exemplary hand therapy program: splinting, joint mobilization, dexterity, upper extremity prosthetic use, home exercises and patient education. Hand injury recovery distinguished her as a leader in the field.

Prior to her tenure at Temple University Health System, Inc., Ms. McAdoo advanced from a staff position to unit supervisor over a three-year period at the Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine in New York. Her responsibilities included overseeing daily operations and ensuring high standards of patient care for patients with spinal cord injuries. She demonstrated a commitment to professional development and innovation during this period. She was appointed to the Registration Committee of the American Occupational Therapy Association, established to prepare and modify the national registration examination.

Ms. McAdoo's career took a unique turn when she traveled to Greece for what was initially intended to be a six-week program at The Aegean Center for the Fine Arts. Captivated by the culture and opportunities, she extended her stay to 12 years. While in Greece, she practiced Occupational Therapy in the rural village setting, and taught printmaking and bookbinding at the school. Additionally, she served as an administrative assistant at the Aegean School of Fine Arts. This experience broadened her perspective on rehabilitation and education while deepening her appreciation for the arts. Therapy's goals are met via the process. Art is judged via the results.

Upon returning to the United States, Ms. McAdoo accepted a position as a staff occupational therapist at Warminster General Hospital near Philadelphia. There, she was one of three therapists on staff working in general medicine. and in their Level 2 Trauma area. Her interest in brain injuries intensified as she encountered patients in the intensive care unit. She introduced the Rancho Los Amigos Scale to help staff assess states of coma in brain-injured patients. She provided sensory stimulation and range-of-motion therapy and was deeply invested in her patients' progress after discharge. Several former patients returned to share their experiences with her; notably, three recognized her by voice alone—a testament to her impact.

Following her time at Warminster General Hospital, Ms. McAdoo spent eight years working with ReMed Transitional Living's re-entry program. In this role, she taught essential life skills such as cooking, ironing and basic household tasks to individuals transitioning from rehabilitation hospitals back into society. She also worked with a behavioral ophthalmologist on visual disturbances with binasal occuders, light therapy and scanning, and depth perception. She developed a driving test that, though difficult, demonstrated to the client the involvement of the whole body in safe driving.

Ms. McAdoo also spent one year working in a nursing home environment, further expanding her breadth of experience with diverse patient populations and medical conditions. Additionally, Ms. McAdoo served briefly as an adjunct professor in Occupational Therapy at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, where she shared her knowledge with future practitioners. She also volunteered for a short period in the Galveston Transition Program.

Ms. McAdoo's academic foundation includes a master's degree from Temple University, earned in 1991, and a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy from The Ohio State University, completed in 1965. Early influences shaped her educational journey: her father's inventive spirit inspired her interest in adaptive devices for individuals with disabilities. A friend came to her mother, a Home Economist, to learn how to adapt clothing for the handicapped child. These formative experiences instilled a lifelong commitment to problem-solving and patient-centered care. Her ingenuity is evident through numerous solutions devised for patient-care over the years—such as a modified bicycle jigsaw to show a movie as long as the pedals are moving, a handle attached to a protractor that would indicate the degree of wrist rotation, and games that could improve digital extension.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Ms. McAdoo has demonstrated civic engagement as co-founder of the Master Naturalists Williamson County Chapter in Texas, and board member for nature tourism initiatives in Galveston. As such, she became a supporter of the Attwater Prairie Chicken National Wildlife Refuge (Texas City TX), Berry Springs Park & Preserve (Georgetown TX), and in both cities: water-monitoring efforts, and turtle and bird preservation projects. She volunteers at the local library in Georgetown and enjoys a hand of bridge once a month.

In her personal life, Ms. McAdoo has found fulfillment through family connections spanning both the fine arts and the sciences—her first husband (MA from Philadelphia's Tyler School of Art, Temple University) founded and directed The Aegean School of Fine Arts on Paros, a small then-undeveloped island in Greece where they lived with well-water and no electricity. In contrast, her second husband was a renowned neuroscience researcher at The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston after completing a PhD at Cornell University, a post-doc at Johns Hopkins University. and a short stint in the life-detection program at the Jet Propulsion Lab, CA.
She is the stepmother of two children who have thrived into adulthood; their diverse backgrounds have further enriched her family life.

Looking ahead, Ms. McAdoo is dedicated to supporting loved ones through significant transitions—assisting her sister as she adapts to vision loss by applying both professional expertise and familial support. She volunteers at the local park caring for their mascot donkeys once a week, loves to travel, likes to sew, dabbles a bit in writing, and photographs her prairie plants.

Ms. McAdoo continues to value relaxation while remaining present for those closest to her—reflecting on a career marked by compassion, innovation and unwavering dedication to improving lives through Occupational Therapy and community service.
